I need a fire wall. What do you think is the best?
depending on my mood either zonealram sygate or tiny most other spec blackice are near to useless at the mo i am useing sygate as i find that easy to use on a network
thank you, i'm just looking for one, for mics. use, and help keep out trojans.
think u shud buy 1
an easy to use top quality firewall is zonealram
Software firewalls aren't that expensive, but they do take up system resources. If you want your PC to stay the way it is but want protection, I suggest that you get a hardware firewall. They are expensive, but if you have a really old PC, you can use it as a firewall with some adjustments. I don't know how to do this though.
Sygate PF Pro 5.1 imo is the best. Paul & I believe also Balamm use it also. I really like it.
what about norton! norton is the best! :)
I think balamm mentioned that earlier versions were better then 5.1.Quote:

the main reason why firewalls / antivirus get updates is cos programmers hackers find ways around the protection so they then block that by updateing their progducts if you use an old/er firewall antivirus you are wasteing your time
Even with an earlier version you can still have up to date virus definitions and signatures.Quote:

Sygate 5.1 sometimes blocks websites like hsaleem.tk
Norton security 2003 block some sites like http://www.blackviper.com/
Zone Alarm i had a problem when tweaking my registry, it lock the comp up an i couldn't do anything till i got rid of it.
Windows Fire dosent do anything at all but slow down your comp.
Atguard suck becuse theres way to many pop up saying do you want to block this. Over and over again, and it slow.
I would go with norton or sygate, i use both.

yes but it is the main program executeable that you write your program to get around not the antivirus dat files.....
Nortons Internet security is gay..wouldnt stop a determined 5 year old
ZoneAlarm Pro 4 is good other wise the best way to go is to buy a Nokia Router(MW1122)
My vote goes for Norton. ;)
I've used Norton, Zonealarm, and Sygate. Sygate is the best IMO.
I would get rid of ZA, i hate it. It lock my comp and it wasent acseable till i got rid of ZA.Quote:

I'm using an older version of Sygatepro(5.0build1150). Its more stable than the newer versions. So far not many people have done much of anything except random port scans. The 5.1 builds were slowing down my computer to an unbearable level and also causing other random problems. Thanks for the advice, but I will stick with the older version. I make images ever so often and you(exeus) will not find anything of great value on my pc because I normally don't put anything like that on, and when I do the modem isn't plugged in so good luck on your hacking attempts! I haven't had to use any images yet, so my firewall is doing exactly what I want it to do.Quote:

well i know i'm going to get hell for this but mcafee
/me gives him hades
i gave that up a few years ago :) but all i was trying to say if you were after someone in particualar it makes it alot easyer when thry are running older protection on their comps as is it easyer to find "bugs" that are well known and reseachedQuote:

Sygate is definitly best. 5.1 is a little slower, but you gotta have the latest software. I have used BlackIce (horrible) Tiny (too simple) ZAP (too complicated) Sygate (Just right :) ). The XP firewall is pretty good IMO, closes all your ports. Use it if you want a set-it-and-forget-it solution.
I've been using ZA Pro and like it just fine.
I can't believe you found it too complicated, Supernatural.
It wasen't too complicated to use, but it blocked too many things. It has a tough time knowing the difference between good and bad traffic. Notice how 99% of firewall problems on this board involve ZAP. It's not because it's the most popular firewall, because Norton is about as popular if not more so.Quote:

B) yep same goes for me too ! but i wanna get a router with firewall soon but for the moment i'm sticking with sygate :ph34r:Quote:

I think XP's firewall is fine, but i'd say Sygate for simplicity and Agnitum Outpost for an insane amount of features
The only one I've ever used is ZoneAlarm never had any probs
am on v4.0 now
Anyone For Kerio?
I too am looking for a new firewall, im having problems with Sygate Pro.
Anyone use/heard about Kerio being any good?
