My computer has been on for 4 days now.. no problems.
I'm wanderin if after a week or two it might start over heating
I never use Stand-by.. and I allways use Hybernate when i actually turn it off.

I basically never turn mine off. I restart every now and then but thats bout it. Never had a problem.
nothing wrong with doing that. only thing is sometimes my graphics card overheats and i gotta restart, but thats only after a day of intense gameplaying. i just leave it off for an hour to cool off then turn it on again for another 2 wks or so.. id say my computer has been on for about 2 months, with the occasional restart.Quote:

I got a Radeon 9500 Pro graphics card that required one of those HD power supply cords to be connected to it also. It uses alot of poWer!
I am guessing mogadishu has a radeon pro card that has the extra power.
I paid $200 and dont want it to burn up

btw i got a CPU fan (slightly larger heatsink than normal... rectangled)
and a PCI Slot Fan (than is put at the bottom slot on the computer case that doesnt lead to a PCI input)

Yeah leave it on....when you turn it off the CPU cools then when u turn it back on it heats up FAST which can cause worping and isnt good...just leave it on..its better

Dedicated servers are not desktop computers! They are heavy duty machines designed to handle that much stress. If you leave the PC on for several days your chances will increase that your ATA hard drives will burn out, get bad sectors, head crash or overheat. If you have SCSI hard drive then this won't apply because they are mainly sever hard drives build to be on 24/7.Quote:

Before this PC I have had other ones and I have always left them on too, without problems.
Unless one's running a server, IMO it's ego & foolish to leave it on 24/7.
I've been leaving mine on 24/7 with the ocassional restart & my comp seems kinda screwy, windows automatic update no longer works & my harddrive (original) sounds like it's struggling when I try to do something, mind you I think it could have something to do with norton, anywAy after around a day or 2 I find I need to restart because it runs really slow.
being a bit of a environmentalist I don't really like people leaving their computers on all the time - it's only acceptable if you're doing something, like downloading or calculating Pi
if you are going to leave it on make sure you turn off the monitor/speakers/or any other peripherals to save our planet (or some of its resources at least)
It saves your current Windows session to disc, and it then safely turns the computer off.Quote:

Its the closest thing to a true "suspend" to me, because it can resume from a hibernate state when I hit the power button again, in like 2 seconds.

You can't "really" defrag your computer unless you run diskeeper at boot time. By the way diskeeper 8 is nice. The boot time defragmenter is what really sets diskeeper apart from other defraggers.
I turn my computer off every night before I go to bed. I have been known to run refresh rates at or over 100 Hz. And besides that video card, as Wolfmight knows, is not exactly energy efficient...and my [email protected] GHz and the RAID volume...all of that is heavy power consumption, yes...
I think turning off your computer is a good idea in general whenever you are not using it. It is that simple...I mean I guess you could hypothetically keep it on for no reason, just to keep it on for the f*ck of it...it is refreshing rebooting...
And not to mention, whenever you upgrade your operating system it is required for you to reboot anyways for the changes to be applied...and if you are a computer geek like me and get most of your day to day thrills from tweaking your
computer, you will end up occasionaly needing to reboot...

Never gave me any problems.. I already got 300w power supply.. Works Great.
I would like to leave my pc on too at night, but it sucks up alot of power. with a 19" moniter and a video card that needs more energy then the sun, gf4 ti4200, and keyboard and opty mouse. Thats alot of juice. I do leave it on for downloads then turn it off and go back to bed lol.

probably.. but then again it gets damaged just leaving it on.. and that standby mode where the light turns orange on the moniter still uses a little bit of power.

Is 300 watts enough? What other power claimers do you have in your system? RAID? CPU? etc. etc...it is kinda weird that I had the same error as Tweakhound with the ATI delayed write errors...what was really strange is that everything was working well until all of the sudden after about 2 months, I started encountering problems after I started to add more components to my computer.
And Wolfmight, also, do you use Rage 3d tweak with your card? I highly advise it as it has the best built in overclocker and many other tweaks that are explained and otherwise unavilable in the ATI control panel.
This Radeon tweak guide may come into handy...
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that Win 98 has a memory leak. The longer your computer is on, the slower it is.

I agree, my school had windows 98 and left it on all the time.. When it starting running very slow.. i would restart it and boom it ran like 5 times faster or somethin.
