What do you usually use for IRCing? mIRC is only 30 days evaluation time and AFAIK it is the king of IRC... Is there a better solution?

Xchat isn't free to windows users but what is free is Chatzilla or Kvirc

I used the non free version for years. There's no difference except for it nags you when you start it.
Another program for IRC called Icechat
Don't use it myself personally but it's completely free. So possibly another option to consider.

Yes we are, because 9/10 freeware is better than crapyware/payware/shareware.
And MiRC calls home though.
There is an "unofficial" free version of x-chat for windows, by a different developer. It's pretty much an x-chat clone. I've used both the cracked paid version and this free version before. Ended up liking the feel of the free version better so dumped the paid one.Quote:

i grabbed leafChat earlier today...looks pretty darned good so far
used HydraIRC in the past as well - that was nice too but needs more upgrades for the PC version to be optimal (linux version is awesome)
mirc can be free :shifty:
xchat (silverex) is the best free IRC client out there for windows imo - even cleaner than mIRC (though not as many scripts for it)

I use Xchat on linux where it's free. But if I had windows I would find a crack for it.
Install mIRC 6.35
1) Make sure mIRC is CLOSED and then run the patch exe (right click "run as administrator" if you're on vista) > click PATCH.
2) It should confirm the patching (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=80ea55dmircpatch3.jpg) Close the patcher.
6) Now run mirc.exe - It will ask you to register. Click that you have a code (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=46a0403dmircpatch4.jpg) It should still appear on first run even if your time hasn't expired like mine has [see the note below for other reasons why this screen may not appear].
7) Enter anything your heart desires in to the name and serial boxes (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=dab6521mircpatch5.jpg)
8) Click OK > Job done (http://pic.leech.it/pic.php?id=14e44b2bmircpatch6.jpg)
