OK, SharedHolder, here's your poll. I've put the 5 most common AV systems up, if you use another then please specify which one :)

Nice ,thank you Lamsey. :D
i voted norton, but will follow this with interest as i'm thinking of changing because of the time/effort it takes for the full system scan. :)
 what effort?Quote:

Just set it to do it during the night, every night. No problem.
only takes me 15 minutes to scan 32 gigsQuote:

hehe - i meant the effort on the pc's part not mine. i've done the full scan before a few times while the only other thing running has been ie, and the system slows a fair bit, like with minimising windows, closing etc. the pc is fairly quick too, a p4, but i still find the full scan a bit of a drag. its norton prof 2003 i've been using btw if that makes any more sense.
i ususally have around 70 gigs and the scan takes best part of 2 hours  . p4 2.5ghQuote:

For what AV goes your vote Lamsey? ''Norton''?
other----- f-prot ;) ;)
I'm loving Anti-Virus Guard aka AVG. Easy install, easy program and definitions update and fast system scans. AVG 7.0 rocks, Just the best anti-virus for me, and not a hog on my system resources like norton. :)
This is sorta tough.
My first comp came with Norton bundled in and the program has managed to migrate to newer machines with me.
I haven't tried any other AV programs, so I HAD to vote for Norton.
No virii yet, so I guess it's working and I have no complaints.
Pol...maybe something else is going on, a full system scan for me only takes around 15 min. also and we have about the same amount of data it sounds like. You might want to consider partitioning your HD. Just put your OS and programs into one (active) partition and move all your media files and Shared Folder into another.
That way you only need to do a system scan of your active partition as the other partition is isolated from possible virus infection.
NOD32 as resident & KAV Pro non-resident.
Norton For Me :D
Norton Antivirus :)
BOT
my vote goes for mcafee for 4 reasons
1. My school gives me a free copy
2. Less resource's used then Norton
3. Faster system scan then norton
4. Good review on Cnet
I second that; 2004 Professional kicks ass! :)Quote:

BOT
I voted Other because i use NONE of them.. (makes sense huh? :D )
The one i use is the free online Virus checker from Housecall.
I just don't like all the SLOW DOWN programs.
We just have to check all files before we open them.
It's my pc, and i want to control the darn thing hahahaa!
But some like them i guess....
Come to vote!!   :lol:Quote:

Norton Anti Virus 2003 Pro. Ive had no problems with it for a year or so now. It cuts out or blocks any virus it finds in a download, only after 3 seconds usually.
I would upgrade to Norton Anti Virus 2004 but the activation is a pain in the arse!
Anyways Norton Av 2003 Pro gets my vote
mcafee not problems no viruses upto date  , great pol lamsey
How you get norton 2004 to work, doesnt it need a valid cd key to connect to the main computer to get a go ahead to install. :/
I had to vote Other as I don't think Norton corporate should be included in the same category as Norton desktop.
I am actually surprised Nortons is on top, I would expect that to change to avg soon...
Had SAV corporate 8.1 as resident and AVG7 Pro as back-up. After the last live-update my pc is freezing al the time, so SAV corporate is now history and AVG has promoted to resident with NOD32 as back-up although this sequence can change.
nod32
McAfee VS 7.0 Pro
AVG free edtion is the best virus scanner i have come across.. so i voted 4 AVG
Norton Antivirus 2003 Professioal Edition
cant beat it! :D
nod32 generally has a higher virus detection rate than norton...Quote:

cheers clocker but mines the same, all large media/software files in one partition and it still takes over an hour to scan c:, probably my settings somewhere/something but i'm definitely gonna try something else soon
ps - *bump*
Hello Pol :D , NOD32 & AVG .
NAV 2003 (never an infection while its updated, catches the infected d/l's
from kazaa, but yeah, its a hog alright  )
kind of a pain to schedule my pc usage around the scans,
but i'll trade some resources for the security :)
i like symantec's knowledge base too
most defs include manual removal instructions in case AV cant remove, nice
Yet another vote for NAV... 2003 Pro. :D
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.1.1.314 !!
I use Norton for Anti Virus and Firewall.
Hmm well lets see
I used Norton 2003 Pro before i formatted, was a good av, used the most sys resources out of the other av's ive used
moved to symantec corp 8.1.1, but had problems doing a full system scan and their help guild didnt actually help
next i tried nod32 and kaspersky, which are good av's but i did not like the interface.
then came panda titanium 2004, a good av and a nice interface but just kept popping up msg's and was a bit too erm.... 'babyish'?
now im using avg 7 and its a good av, low resources and im happy with it
my vote goes to avg :D
Norton antivirus corp is very good indeed. Regular norton 2004 pro is a bloated piece of shit.Quote:

so NAV is tops after all :)
AVG it is much more agressive then norton and also norton crashed on my system and norton is the biggest pain to reinstall.
Although in German, AntiVirenKit should be great. DoubleScan Technology (Bitdefender/RAV engine and KAV=Kaspersky engine). Can someone confirm this?
Every since I got Norton Corporate from balamm about 6 or 7 months ago maybe longer, I have used it ever since. Its very lightweight and it only does what I think an av should do. Realtime file protection and virus updates, thats all I want. I dont need the clean sweep, defrag and all that other unecessary crap. Although I have several gigs of ram, I still dont see the point in wasting it for a multipurpose av like norton pro or something like that.
One problem though. Norton corp only seems to update every 5 or 6 days or so. They run it on my campus and it does the same thing there.
