Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Quote:
retention capacity upgrade to 365 days
astraweb is pleased to announce that we have just completed an infrastructure upgrade to increase our retention storage to 365 days.
Currently our server storage capacity stands at 365 days.
Our retention is currently growing daily towards 365 days. The latest retention statistics as well as our retention capacity is available at:
http://www.news.astraweb.com/tools/stats.html
our retention growth is for all groups. Our retention growth also includes headers, unlike many other services that do not include headers as part of their retention growth.
Astraweb is committed to providing the best value service!

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
giganews has to lower their price to compete...the " best premium service" line giganews gives isnt going to work much longer
-
Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
That line hasn't been true for many months now. Giganews needs to decrease their monthly prices to half of what of they charge now for Platinum accounts to even compete with Astraweb.
Seriously, there is absolutely no reason to use Giganews at this point. You're just throwing money away subscribing to them.

incredible this guys are doing a really great job

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Giganews has also announced 365 days. I do not know if before or after this but I am staying put on Astra. Giganews lower your prices.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Astraweb is where it's at.. glad to be with them.

yea but theres still people out there who think b.c. giganews is 2-3 times as much as astra it must be better..."you get what you pay for"...which is crazy, ive used both and theres no diff between the 2 both just as stable and both maxed my speeds
also for those using astraweb they changed their server addresses...its on the news page check it out

I just laugh when I read people type this. It's ignorance really. I've also used Giganews, and I see absolutely no difference between theirs and Astrawebs service. So in this case, this " you get what you pay for" excuse has me baffled. Considering you can get the same quality of service and more than half the price less.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
One thing I have learnt from Marketing is that bringing down your price is a no non. Giganews might offer more connections and price that higher to make their current plans look cheaper.
Maybe I'm wrong.
But wow Astraweb is the best :D

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Competition is great, isnt it? About the only reason to stay with GN at this point might be if you wanted access to their servers in Asia. I could easily see that being a selling point for some users. Otherwise Astraweb and GN both cover North America and Europe for everyone else. Now we need to get the nzb sites to up their retention as well.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
astraweb has new server addresses for those who use them

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Wow, looks like I've got no choice but to sign up now! The only thing is, now I have to sign up to a NZB site to make it worth it. Is Newzbin my best option?

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Excellent news. I am so glad I got on board with astraweb. They are by far the best and the cheapest.
@The Mighty Newzbin is a great resource to have combine that with this site and nzbsrus and nzbs.org and you will have all bases covered.

Would you recommend paying for either Newzbin or nzbrus to take advantage of the 240 retention listings? On Nzbmatrix, for example, you can't download NZB's older than 20 days unless you become a ZIP member.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
just use search sites like nzbindex.nl, binsearch.info, newzleech.com extc...use rar names to search and if its there youll find it
indexers are easier to find stuff if your new to nzbs...but anything thats on indexers are on search sites plus more that doesnt get posted to indexers

I would recommend paying for newzbin. It is dirt cheap and during the holidays you can get it half off. Right now it is like 2 dollars a month. Nzbsrus is also dirt cheap but still allow 4 nzb downloads a day for free. If you have the means pay for both they are great resources. I have really no experience with nzbmatrix maybe someone else who deos will chime in. If you can only pay for one I would say nzbsrus, but I am partial to the layout and speed of nzb pre's there.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
I get much better speeds on a single connection and uploading to Giganews due to much closer proximity and great routing to their datacenter. But both max out my line over multiple connections. The upgrade in retention is always nice, but I'll go with Astraweb unless Giganews price drops or something.
There is something else I just thought about. I read elsewhere that Giganews has taken down some files or parts of the articles to comply with copyright claims, and I figure they get a lot more of these as the biggest provider. Anyone know about that issue, especially compared to Astraweb?

fuck no... 98.99% of shit on all the servers is copyrighted.. IF anything someone alerted them of illegal porn and I hope they'd take that out.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
Just made the jump to Astraweb myself, but from easynews (I know, but the web interface was convenient) and couldn't be happier.

Obviously. But if a copyright holder submits a proper DMCA notice to the usenet provider, they will have to comply to meet the safe harbor requirements. So I've heard speculation that GN has complied at times but I'm curious if that's the case and if Astraweb has too.

I could be wrong but I think if they have US servers they pretty much have to comply, however I think the copyright holder has to submit a certain file to be removed and given the fact that the same file with a different name will be up shortly after in most cases it's probably a moot point. Thankfully the majority of people still beleive that P2P is where all those nasty pirates get their ill gotten goods so I think usenet is still largely ignored.

To may people newzbin is worth the price.
Myself being one that believes so. I usually jump in on the half price sale in January, and it cost less that $20 for a year.

He asked so I told, as broken said newzbin is worth it to many. Not any one site has it all, newzbin is just another tool in the bag and I for one beleive it is worth the pennies a day it costs.

Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
I've tried easynews, giganews, and astraweb and I couldn't be happier with astraweb. It's by far the best value for the money.
-
Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
another satisfied astraweb customer here. been with them 2 weeks now since bailing on easynews and completion, connections and retention have been great.

Extremely reliable source (completion/retention).
I can pull around 10MB/s from them normally :))
-
Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
I just realized how much more action this thread got compared to GN, which I think says it all.
-
Re: Astraweb upgrades retention to 365 days
maybe we could get luckey, gn goes under and astraweb picks up the hardware, then we'll end up with 600 something days retention... lol...
To the the Giganews Staff that LURK these threads....... Offer me your retention for astraweb prices and maybe I'll think about looking into joining you.
