Why can't people write decent requests?!

Ok, I guess you're getting tired of me by now. This is just an attempt to improve the GA/req section.

As you have probably seen I'm fairly active there, but I always find shite requests. It seems people can't write more than 2 lines of text nowadays. Now I'm not here only to troll (big surprise! :O), but I haven't found anyone but 1 person worthy of an invite since I've been here (and it's been allmost half a year).

I encourage everyone to write longer requests, no matter how bad your english is. I usually don't invite people that have über l33t ratios, I invite people that use their accounts, plus I like to read.

I know I'm not alone in this, so if there's a tracker you think would be great for you, go for it and don't look at the levels, write a decent request instead.

The answer is pretty simple. They don't know how to do it.
Most of the ppl's who make req's here are new to this private tracker thing, k maybe they are not new but they are new in "making request" thing, and there is no place where to learn how to make a proper request. Instead of teaching them how to do it, most of the users just post rubbish and laugh about them, shame on you :pinch:

Language is only excuse :dry:
There are tons of translators on the internet. :yup:
Anyways, there should be a thread - "how to make a proper request" (or something like that), where everybody can look how it can be done.

If they don't warrant an invite because they did not write a decent request, what's the problem, clutter on the page? Let them weed themselves out of the running. And if you like to read, pick up a decent novel.

I think most of the crappy request here are made of ignorance or they simply don't care and are just throwing out a line into the duck pond hoping someone will bite. I agree with the whole let the losers who can't write a decent request weed themselves out and only leave the people who give a shit enough to put some thought into their request.

Writing a good request proves nothing except that you are able to write a good request.
Fact is I've seen a few people simply based on their eloquence get invited to just about everything and then turn out to be absolute turds as members.Realize that if eloquence was any measure of honesty then there wouldn't be any corrupt politicians.

And giving guidelines on how to do it only exacerbates the problem because it would be a handbook for people to fabricate to .

(Although I would by no means set it as the singular condition )Show me a whole lot downloaded ( not uploaded ) on a tracker with similar content and then at least I know that you may actually have a passing interest in what you are asking for.( of course that negates Oday trackers but they're all more or less the same anyway).

Such a thread would be good, but if you look at the history here, there have been some succesfull reqs in the past, maybe people could learn something from them.

Louie, I really don't get it why you're here. I've been going through your posts and I can't think of a reason. You said TPB is the best, so what's up with you interest in private trackers?

I agree, but a good written request is a good start. Of course you ask for profile links later, but I'm not even gonna bother with someone who writes: want TL invite, have seedbox unmetered, so I will seed. thx

Knowing somebody for a period of time is the only true measure of what you can expect out of an invitee, and even then it can be a pretty poor one. However writing a good request does at least show intelligence.

I know what you mean by this, but I don't really agree. A guideline could be as simple as stating why you want the tracker, what you know about the tracker, and why you feel you deserve an invite. You can lie about your reasons, but it will be more obvious (at least it should be to many users).

That being said I've never written or filled a request here, but I do sometimes read others requests, and I'd have to agree most of them are quite poor in one way or another. That's why I chimed in on this thread.

I love these requests for their comic relief i guess :D,for example,were it not for them i wouldn't have known that invites were also known as vait and invi,so i say let them be lol :D:D:D

Was an attempt at both a joke and a compliment ( sort of)Actually it was more of a knock at my verbose style of writing which is probably neither understood or appreciated by a majority of the people here.

I don't talk like this in rl but given that I am not on a first name basis with many people here I tend to fall into this pattern of formality.

A lengthy request only shows that the person isn't braindead or foreign. I've gotten into great places with a one line request, and the longest request I've made was probably a paragraph. I don't think essay writing skills are a necessart to be a good torrenter, and I don't think you should invite someone based on a short and to the point request either. If you know the person and trust them, give them the invite if you want to, regardless of the how well they write their request. If you don't know them then either take the risk or don't, but basing it on someones english skills isn't the best idea.

I don't know why you created this topic. If you don't like someone's request then ffs move along and ignore it. No reason to complain about it. How would telling them that if they wrote better requests they would get invites from you make anything any better? They would still be the same person who would have made the 'bad' request otherwise, none of this would make him a better torrenter.

Exactly, frequent posters can get away with short request for some trackers. If you're relatively unknown around here I feel that one should make a more detailed request. One that should include details on yourself, your bt history, why you want the tracker, how will you use the tracker etc. The more information you can give a potential inviter the better. Also, they may want to include things such as charm and wit to impress some people.

I am sure that most people here don't have english as their first language. But there are loads of places to improve your lingual skills, and all that is required is conviction.

You observation Martinator is quite true. I believe that people making those short requests aren't really interested in obtaining what they have requested. If they are interested for real they will invest some time and make a proper request.

My opinion.

A perfect example of a decent request

When I come across them, I've been so happy to find torrents with classical, jazz and classic rock in lossless quality. Among other types of music, I'm a fan of everything from Miles Davis to Pink Floyd and from Jay Z to Nirvana to Tiesto, etc. etc.

Most sites don't have much lossless, and on the ones that do it seems that seeding back lossless stuff is a bit harder, because it many people just go with mp3 and there are often both qualities uploaded together. So, I think that the best way for me to explore this newfound interest is to join a dedicated tracker full of fellow FLAC lovers.

By the way, I'd also like to learn how to rip FLAC (hopefully when finals end, I'll have some time to try).

I've been very lucky to be invited to several great sites through this forum, and I hope I can round out my sources with a tracker dedicated to sharing high quality tunes. So, I'm hoping that a member of either one of the two dedicated lossless trackers can invite me. Whether it is Pedro's or E**** I don't care much for levels (dunno what they are, but I do know they are rare...) I will enjoy being a member at either tracker.

I'm a good member at all sites I join. You can see some proofs from today of my music trackers and my favorite movie tracker. http://drop.io/gumdropz Although I've only been a member of these trackers for a couple of weeks, I clearly use them often and share what I can with my two seedboxes.

One sentence request only work whe they are written for people that actually know you already, for strangers to give you an invite a 1-line request shows me the OP isn't even capable of doing an effort to convince possible inviters why they should give him their invite. If they can't even do that, how could a possible inviter expect some dedication to atracker he's got an invite to.

The trolls only come out when the request deserves to be shat upon.

I think that is true for the most part .
FST has a bad rep in some places because of all the spamming and trolling but I put most of it down to people ( in a perverted way) looking out for each .
If a person makes a genuinely good request everyone is just as quick to support it.

Coz most are lazy fucks who just want to download/leech :D

i myself can't stand long requests. It's just a larger waste of time seeing ppl beg and suck up in a more intellectual way

they doesn't write decent requests for the simple reason they think being invited in a tracker is a right rather than a privilege.
in a sense, they're not wrong considering the way many rep whores distribute invites without bothering who they give them to.

is it really too bad to simply "ignore" them?

I made only two requests here and got them both and I would say that this is like a snowball, I mean, if I ever make a new request, I'm pretty sure it will be easier than the last 2 requests...

If you need a big or small request to get an invite depends on what you are here and who you know here!

If you're new, probably you don't know how to make requests and you'll end up being ignored or with your thread flamed. In no time you'll learn how to ask for things or you'll just give up and forget about fst.

A thread to teach people how to make good requests? A lame idea in my opinion if you ask... why? Because if you do so, probably we'll end up inviting people prepared to make good requests and not prepared to be a good member in most of the good and private trackers we know!

Btw, you may call me crazy but I really think that flaming a bad request is better than just ignoring it... Because my first request was flamed I had the opportunity to express myself in a better way and convince a user here that I deserved what I was asking for, even though I didn't know how to make a good request in the first place...

I'd rather see a long-winded request, chock full of ass kissing and begging than "plz i ned it lol."

I hate how i remember things but am sure not so long ago you said you don't give your invites here,so why on earth would you care about how people make requests that you don't intend to fill?

Most people here see torrenting as a game; the files they they are after is a minor/secondary goal but what they are really after is being in one of those stupidly rare trackers.

eloquence != worthiness

Anyone can type up a lengthy post of why they want an invite or what have you. If you make it seem like a wordier post will mean anything more, there's a good likelihood that a trend of paragraph-long bullshit will appear all over the request section. In the end, all requests have the same intention, to get an account on a specific site (whether or not it's an honest request or not is another matter). Though personally I feel that posts like "lol i plz i ned it kthxbiye" and general ass-kissing should be dismissed right away.

And reputation is such bullshit. As stated by others, users who are beginning to torrent may find it difficult to get into private trackers without having any sort of "credentials"...
