The plot is nothing special, though it still looks like something worth watching.
Derivative doesn't always mean bad. Most great ( not that this is necessarily one ) are just well done variations on a familiar theme.
It doesn't star the Jonas Brothers and it wasn't directed by Michael Bay...that automatically puts Daybreakers on the must see list.

Gotta say I enjoyed the clip, the whole idea of a world dominated by vampire sounds good, the cast, from what I could see looks good as well.

Sure there is still the isolation and the loss but the movie protagonists ( like proper Hollywood heroes) never give in and never cease fighting for something , hence most of the essential poignancy ( and all of the meaning of the last line ) is lost.
People say that the book isn't really a horror novel at all being instead a treatise on individualism versus conformity but I disagree .In my book nothing is so frightening as the inevitability of fate .
