Yes, if someone confesses to do something then thats how u know they did it.
There could be some asshole thats doing it too, but the RIAA already said they were doing it.

Just so you know, im from the UK so I dont really read anything to do with the RIAA and had just occured to me I had never really known why people accussed them all this stuff to do with Kazaa but as Agent Smith said they have at some point said they are.
I cant see what good it does them putting fake files out there next to real files it does not acheive anything.
To put them out makes us not want to, it hasels us and makes it anoying. I personaly havent had one screechy song so i dont care. They think if they can corrupt the network people will stop using it.
Hey!

Hey!
We have 2 things to fear: the RIAA and morons. The RIAA sends out a fake file, and the moron shares it with everybody.
Yeah those people suck.Quote:

I have to say i check every file I download with my Anit-Virus checker and then either view the file or listen to it. But there are people out there just sharing these duff files and not checking them. Whats the point in downloading something if you dont use it ??
well I seem to be the only memebr on this board who refuses to believe about the RIAA putting fake files on kazaa?? my question is why only kazaa??
man they are dumbass if thats the case
you cant tell me they have ll that bandwith
also if I was the RIAA I would be smart enough to make my own torrent site without anyone knowing get their ips and get em but no their too dumb
I dont uynderstand why you guys believe this bullshit
When they started all this, kazaa was the most used P2P client thats why they target it.Quote:

Probably because various hackers (or call them security analysts if you want) have verified it... :ph34r:Quote:

I have accidently downloaded a few fake files in the past, but I always make sure I delete them as soon as I realise they're bad. I bet it is RIAA and I hate them for it. I wouldn't put anything beyond them - I mean if they think it's OK to go round suing 12 year old girls from low incom single parent families, then is there anything they wouldn't do?
And when I ever get a fake file, all it does it make me more determined to get the real thing. There's no way RIAA is ever going to put me off filesharing!!! They can take their stupid Overpeer and go jump off a cliff!! :D
Don't forget to make a note of the user name you got that fake from, if you can
Yes I did, it was a user called toe37, about 2 months ago. I accidently downloaded 2 fake files from them, and when I clicked the button to view all their files, I noticed that they were sharing several thousands of files at high bandwidth. I downloaded another one from them just to check, and that was fake as well.Quote:

Then I wrote a private message to toe37, demanding to know why they were sharing so many fake files. The message did not reach them, because they had decided to block all incoming private messages. Hmm, I wonder why??!! ;) LOl !!
There is no real point in doing that though as you can change your username with ease.Quote:

I know, I know. ;) In future I will get their IP address as well, because now I know how to do Start > Run > cmd > netstat . Then I will put the IP address on the list of banned IP ranges, on my own computer.

Hunt for known-to-be-corrupted MP3s!
Try to download a LOT of them but make sure to pause them instead of letting them come out of the queued state.
THEN do autosearch more on them to get LOTS of sources for each. (It helps to have source max set to 40 or even higher!)
THEN open their DAT files using K-Dat and hunt for sources of different sizes, high speeds, tight ip clustering in narrow ranges (They are probably using narrow ip ranges no bigger than 65,536 ips and possibly only 256 ips.), AND whois/DNS lookup on the ips doesn't return ISP info but instead gets strange companies (shell companies they're using) or NOTHING!
I've read many times that the RIAA and the like have been uploading these files and they have been appearing ever since the RIAA "waged war" on P2P. I have no specific proof though but I would not be suprised.
YEs and this has been said over and over again.Quote:

I think that in future, this is what everyone should do to try and stop the spread of fake files.
1) When downloading a song, always preview it to check it's genuine.
2) If it's fake, then click the button to find more files from the same user.
3) Check to see if they're fake as well.
4) If they are, then you know that this person is deliberately trying to ruin the network. So then try and find out their IP address.
5) Add it to the text-file of banned ranges.
6) Post the address on all the main filesharing forums, or put it on the peerguardian database, so then other people can add it to their list of banned ranges as well.
Another theory regarding the fake file problem that I had some time ago on older versions of Kazaa...... I assumed ppl were just renaming files to music or movie files that were in demand.... this used to increase your rating when it mattered how many files you were uploading....
Just a thought... I haven't really been following the RIAA kerfufle (being from Canada)..however, from what I have been reading in forum threads, it's a HUGE concern as well... won't comment on an issue without more info...
;)
