if you have a nVidia card, go into msconfig and disable NVsvc from startup, see if that will help
it cud also take ages if u have a lot of programs in system tray
Do you have NOD32 antivirus? That gives me problems to shutdown, even is the best av program ever .
No i have a ati 9200,
i dont have NOD32 antivirus,
it also takes ages if i first close all the prog in the system tray.
There were some programs installed on the computer when i got it, know anything else which could make my shutdown so slow?
What pc do you have? You have Norton installed?
you'll get some good suggestions here
experts exhange.
here's a tip, i googled "xp slow shutdown" and it was the first result.
no i dont have norton anymore, i thought it might be norton that slowed me down but it wasnt norton. I've installed norman instead, my overall pc performance has increased with norton gone but shutdown hasnt improved a lot, still takes ages.
not really the same prob but ill see if i can find anything on experts exchange.
didnt find anything on experts exchange that worked :'( , gonna do a google search myself. why didnt i think of that.
please anyone know what i can do? ive tried a google search for other sites but no luck. i have p4 with 512mb ram;
North Bridge Chipset: 645DX, B0
South Bridge Chipset: 962/L, B0
External Graphic Card ( Standalone GPU ): ATi
and it takes longer to shutdown than my old duron 1300+.
:( :(
HERE WE GO MAVO TRY THIS
[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l
Modify/Create the Value Name [WaitToKillServiceTimeout] according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: WaitToKillServiceTimeout
Value Data: [Default = 20,000 (expressed in milliseconds) Modify to preference.]
*set to 1000*
it will definately speed up the shutdown of your pc.
Exit Registry and Reboot
YOU WILL SHUT WINDOWS IN HEART BEAT GOOD LUCK.////
nope thats not it, ive already set it to 1000=1sec. but thats when uve got the blue logoff screen, i mean that my comp just hangs when i press shutdown, then some time later it shutsdowns.
Since you did mention that it is a prebuilt, why not call the OEM. They may be true tech support and just tell you to format it again but you may get someone who is not an idiot.
i installed tweak-xp pro v3 and my comp now shutdowns quickly
no idea why but it does
thx totalidea!
It works now cos XP is naff cos it's made by microsoft and is full of bugs, and tweak seems to fix some of them.
