Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Hi I have used usenet in the past, but was now looking towards rapidshare. There site says it is SSL secured. As a premium member are all RS dls SSL secured? Also whats there daily DL limit? I know they had one in the past, but I can't find it on the site now.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
usenet ----> rapidshare is a major downgrade.
stick with usenet.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
yeah no shit stick with Usenet, every upload/download via Rapidshit is monitored, and Rapidshare is giving uploaders IP's to authoritys.

No, plain http as far as I know.

5 GB/day accumulating up to 25 GB on your account. [conditions of use, IV. (2)]

Similar to Usenet providers, they log your traffic + ip address, but not what you download.
@topic
If you find everything you want on Usenet, I see no reason to change. There might be sites of interest that upload to RS, offering additional content.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Rapidsahre is logging what you upload/download, they handed stuff over, just Google it.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
I doubt you will get many pro rapidshare post. This is a newsgroup section of this forum. It is not that expensive to have both anyway.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
I guess only reason for going for rapidshare is that is has a lot more variety than usenet...can't find a lot of the old tv shows on usenet or if they are there they are all in german or other foreign languages. I am using newzbin.com for indexing. Any other better indexing service?
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
I have always been on the fence about Rapidshare. Somewhat over priced for what you get and no way to search the whole network, got to rely on people posting there own links. Oh yea, and the logging..screw that.

no not really; newzbin is basically the best.
supersearch is very good too...
and as for free indexers; https://nzbindex.com/
is really starting to shine these days.
binsearch and newzleech seem to be slowly declining, both in turn around time, as well as reliability. newzleech especially.

Search German in any NZB serach eninge and you get all the shows you could ever want, and you can request them too. And you do know there are IRC's for requsting those odd ball shows too?

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
How is rapidshare more expensive? Cheapest annual newzbin subscription in $96 for 12 months, ($8 a month)...rapidshare is $55 for 12 months or $30 for 6 months.

Depends on how much you download. You might need more than one account given RS's bandwidth limits.

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Usenet unlimited, Rapishare limited :) Have fun downloading Rapidshit and don't complain when they block your account for downloading pirated material eventually, and not to mention no SSL.
Plus you always, always max your connection with Usenet, and your ISP wont' care, they will care your using Torrents and Rapishare, we need more people to think Rapidshare is the best and torrents are the best and stay inside your bubble and let the heat be on you, while us Usenet weirdo's continue on our merry way getting anything we want, without so much as a blink of the eys :)
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Well said SoL. With retention wars rising we may have an inf. retention period in the possible future :P.
Let's hope BREIN doesn't pwn us like he's doing to Torrents/DDL.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Rapidshare is just like public trackers whereas UseNet are private trackers, safer.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
Ah yes, and how long does content stay on Rapishare/Megauload/etc....not very long if it's copyrighted....or if they notice huge numbers downloading, will be deleted with in minutes, as for Usenet and unless someone complains, the file stays on Usenet for almost 400 days, we get released minutes after pre (I use for TV shows, can't stand streaming them, even though it's legal to stream them, but not download them, don't get it)_so in a word Rapidsahre is a glorified tracker.....as for Usenet you connect to one server and the only way to know what your downloading/uploading is if you ISP inquires and that's alot of trouble, anybody can get you IP from Rapidshare (as above they give over details pretty quick, sure you can make the case for Usenet, but it doesn't happen "hardley" excpet for child porno, which deservedly need to be dealt with harshley....reason being people think Usenet is bad, good for them and well keep having fun for $11 a month, cheaper than a hooker) or torrent.

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
I was with Giganews 2006-2009 but right now i canceled them and only use rapidshare.
You are right, usenet offers retention, ssl, speed and so on.
But rapidshare is quite good for some things, too.
First of all i only use rapidshare during the night so i am allowed to download 50gb per day. That would be 1500gb per month. More than enough i would say?
Advantages of rapidshare clearly are the variety of porn. ;) Just have a look at some of the old binary multimedia groups, they were full of new stuff in 2005 or 2006 but they are all dead now!
I allways subscribe to the best. rapidshare is the best one click hoster, giganews is the best usenet provider.
rapidshare: 7 euro at monthly subscription
giganews: 17 euro
If i had enough money i would subscribe to usenet and rapidshare. ;)
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
And subscribing to "the best" is your fault. Giganews has 1.25% more rentention, but at the same time is more than twice as expensive as astraweb, and frequently removes articles such as TV shows. Don't use giganews to compare it to rapidshare.

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
i heard that pretime for usenet is bad, equivalent to TPB. Except irc requests.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
 Pretime is less than 2 minutes.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
mm i don't think it's better than private tracker like ScT for scene stuff, the guy which built the auto-script for usenet says: "pretime equivalent to TPB".Pretimes less than 2min is for irc requests nzb.
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
yea maybe usenet was slow before many years but today usenet has very fast pretimes just learn how to search and you will be fine.i usually get my stuff from usenet and upload to rs/mu
i'm also a member of sct and can tell you that usenet has awesome pretime
quick example
Code:
http://i9.raidpic.com/52fsd3.jpg
don't wait someone to post .nzb file if you want fast pre > learn to search!
-
Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
hmm and? your example doesn't mean anything.
topsites=>tops ftp=>private tracker=> NG/public tracker/boards.
usenet hasn't awesome pretime, i knwo all the best sites (private or public/irc requests)for nzb and pretimes for scene stuff are slower than sct for example...
Example Cities XL is leaked and not on NG atm...
and for bones:
!search
Bones.S05E04.720p.HDTV.x264-SiTV ] [ Uploaded first @ TV 1m 25s after pre, followed by [TiT, SCC, PTM, FF, ScR, HT, AL, TL, ACE, DD, sX, TD, BSk, EZTV] ]
!pre
[PRE SEARCH] [ Bones.S05E04.720p.HDTV.x264-SiTV ] [ TV ] [ Released 4h 54m 26s ago [10/8/2009] ] [ 1144.0MB in 24F ]

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
yea usenet has slower pre than sct:usually 3-5 minutes delay but i can live with this :)

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
My only problem with Usenet is i cant find a newsreader im happy with. Newsbin was great until the trial ran out and i havent found a cracked version that works too well. I moved on to using Grabit but i can never max out my download speeds on it.
Then again with rapidshare you just need Orbit or Flashget and you are all good.

The pretimes depend on what category we are talking about really. For TV releases the pretime is not bad, it's quite fast. Do remember there is more work to do than the torrent sites, the usenet posters have to generate parity files.
Btw, for TV posts, usenet won't beat the top private trackers, since this is where the auto-poster gets the releases from ;)

Noobs. If you upload to a Tracker you just transfer from "Sceneftp" to seedbox. Usenet is "Sceneftp" to uploadserver and then to the usenetprovider.

Actually, private trackers can get their releases from a number of places.. such as private IRC channels and private hubs that contain a few different tracker uploaders that share their axx with eachother. It is not always straight from an FTP.
Same with usenet, the releases can come from many diferrent places. Some of the content posted will come from scene ftps, then uploaded from a server. For 0sec TV however, the auto-poster gets it from private trackers. I know who runs the auto-poster and a few other people that use it to fill stuff, hence how I know where it gets releases from.
So, in my opinion, it is YOU that is the noob. :P

You only have to pay a one time fee for Alt.Binz (NZB only) and Newsbin Pro, then you have free upgrades forever.

Re: Usenet vs. Rapidshare
i think there is no reason to leave one for another. They complement eachother. Keep all your options open, find what you need where you can, where its available . But keep your connection safe. That's the most important thing is to try to be as safe as you can.
