Am I get the right speed?
Hi guys! I'm new to the the forum and pretty much new to usenet to so please take it easy on me! :cry:
I signed up to Supernews the other day (before noticing the $9.99 offer! Bastards!) and I'm using GrabIt to download. At first I was using 4 connections and getting 800kbps which I thought was ok but I've heard of people getting double that on the same line as me. I changed the connections to 10 and for a second it jumped up to 1.7mbps but then went back down to 800kbps. I'm using there SSL encryption on port 563, dunno if that makes a difference. I'm also on o2/Be Broadband and not sure if they're throttling usenet connections. Here's my speed test results:

Based on your speedtests those speeds seem very reasonable. However, whether or not your ISP is throttling is very different, depending on which plan you purchased and their advertised speeds.

I am having the same problem.. I was downloading at atleast 3.0mbp/s on Binverse and now I bought Supernews and I am using GrabIt as well and only getting 400kbp/s at the moment.. It wont go past 800 or 900 either :( I am VERY dissapointed

Well his speeds seem perfectly normal given his speed tests. I can't comment on your experiences though as I haven't used either of those providers.

Well actually I think he can get more out of his connection.

Is your ISP throtiling you? Next try the non-ssl......and finally checker you connection settings in Grabit and make sure you don't have a "speed lmiter" set.
Or try Altbinz free version or Sabnzbd+ and see if you get better speeds...
If stil not and you were getting better speeds with a different provider then email them and explain your situtation, and if they dont' correct it you will switch back.

Make sure you're talking about the same speeds also, the difference between kbps and kb/s is a factor of 8.
So 6.6Mbps is 825kb/sec, which would be around your max speed based on the test.

I do feel stupid about that! Cause I was looking at grabit and it said 400kb/s not kbp/s and then i realized :(
but I was normally getting 200kb/s and on binverse I got 10000kbp/s even
I switched to using newsleecher and its working better.
The speed seems to fluctuate WAY to much! steadily going from 100kbp/s to 9mbp/s within like 30 seconds :(
I am not sure how I like Supernews though... They still seem like the speed is less then Bitverse.. I will stay for a bit and see though

It's the same speed with the SSL off. I'll try using another client and see if it gets better. Thanks guys!

I don't think they have Euro servers.

fwiw, BE do not throttle. They have a p good network, so I'd imagine you live a good few miles from your exchange.
this site will tell you where your exchange is, and how fast your line is likely to be.

Supernews says they do have Euro servers. Or I believe NGR says they Supernews has Euro servers seeing as they are a reseller of Giganews (I believe) they should use the same servers
