its second time this happens to me:
i have two network cards. Right now its the second time in less than a month that the network cards just STOP WORKING, and i gotta format so that they work again....
this time i was trying to do some ICS with my computer as server...
last time it was nothing i made...
any ideas?

Why do you have 2 network cards? Are you trying to share an internet connection? Is it highspeed? Perhaps a router would solve the problem.

yea i know a router would be the solution....but over here they are expensive...
im just wondering if any1 knows if the cards can have conflict between each other or something...
re-installing the drivers doesnt work..... i HAVE to format the computer to make em work (perhaps corrupt drivers....) but if this happens too often its gonna break me :D

Did you try moving the cards around, into other PCI slots?
not yet.....but one is an onboard card and the other is a pci card....
you think moving the card will help? i mean, what does it matter?

i had an IRQ conflict with my NIC's (although both of mine are in PCI slots, didn't have an onboard one, my motherboard is about 2-3 years old now). Moving one of them solved the problem, and my computer shares the cable connection fine now. it's worth a shot.

Yea, my new mobo had an onboard LAN nic, but i forgot and used my ol linksys nic also.
My computer was completely unstable.. it would just.. Freeze without thawing out lol.
When i removed the linksys nic and started usein the onboard nic that's a realtek modle.. everything was back to normal ;) . (onboard nic works the same anyways)

u can use a $20 dollar hub and use ics. get rid of the second nic if moving pci slots doesn't work. cuz each port is assigned an irq - moving it may fix ur prob.Quote:

i actually got a switch already...but i dont wanna have to put it :D
but yea...i guess your solution is simple.... but are the cables i need straight or crossover for using the switch with one card?

dude - ur nuts fer usin ics when u have a router! take the load off yer pc and put it on the router.
never said i had a router...i have a switch.... last time i checked switch isnt router ;)

same way u did b4. what kind of i-net connection do u have? if high speed - bind 2 ip's 2 the server's nic - 1 on the WAN side and 1 fer ur LAN side.

depending on ur os (i'll assume xp) - right click ur network neighborhood icon on ur desktop, or go "network connections" in the control panel. right click local area connection, then properties. rigth click tcp/ip and go 2 properties. click the advanced tab and add another ip address.Quote:

this is assuming u DON'T get ur ip address from ur cable modem via DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol).
k what ip i put there? the 192.168.0.1 that i used in the other nic?

w/a router - :) - u would not need the server on 2 access the i-net.

routers use ALoT less power also.. Plus i know linksys routers dont crash as often as a PC Router with Windows on it would.
