Tracker site scripts?

Heya there.

I'm thinking about building a tracker site to check how it really works from the inside, users, classes, admin cp, rules, forums...etc.

But apart from Gazelle, XBTT, TBSource and Torrentbits, I didn't know any other tracker script. And I guess not every tracker site is done from scratch, as most of them just look like others.

So, let's start a list with name and link to official site. Feel free to add the sites you know that are currently using them:

Also, XBTT is just a tracker, not a full site (CMS+tracker+forum+user stuff) unlike the others mentioned.

I can add Torrential (experimental), TorrentTrader and Template Shares.

I could only say that you should definetely stay away from ts script.

It seems people agree with XBITT being the best open source option and Template Shares the best shareware one.

combine gazelle wid XBTT if u remove TTHPC code u can fuse wid many code....gl ;)

Also, OP, as t00z said, you cannot have both XBTT in that list because it's a tracker, not a frontend.

Gazelle isn't bad at all. The only thing that's bad about it is that you need to install a lot of different things, including Debian. :dry:

Template Shares is TBsource/TBDev, but with a price tag.

Ironic that something that is freely available can be sold by a third party.

If you are thinking about Template Shares, then pick up one of the NULLED versions for free.

You're going to need to do more research yourself because a lot of the stuff you have mentioned isn't composed correctly. It doesn't seem at this point that you know the difference between the frontend of a site and the backend...

Nobody likes TemplateShares. I was looking at their source code and it's TBDEV with a lot of changes.

After all, the LAMP package it's gonna run is universal. Or does CentOS, for example, lacks support for any feature debian has ?

I like Windows 3.11 for Workgroups. :lol:

lol its php/mysql/xbtt which means it runs on any OS (it is universal), you do need memcached installed (even though it has been a year since i looked at gazelle so it may be different now) and as far as I know, the only OS that memcached struggles on is windows (even though you can get it for windows) but who on earth would run a tracker on a windows server.

But compared to other linux distros? Or are you comparing to windows?
As far as I've seen, it's just a matter of removing idle processes, and some tweaking, and their performance is nearly the same (unix distros). Though I haven't quite tested it on servers with high load.

Gazelle doesn't depend on debian. It's easier to install on debian servers because memcached is in the official apt repositories, but it's fine on other distros and operating systems. We ran it on CentOS before, and now we're running it on FreeBSD.

xbtt, however, doesn't like FreeBSD very much, and doesn't run nearly as fast as it does on linux (any linux distribution though, not just debian).

Gazelle depends on other software (memcached and sphinx in RC2) because it's built for speed (and is the only open source tracker frontend which can truly say that). If you want to install less stuff, you're not going to get the advantages of advanced technologies. It's pretty simple.

op: i think you are going to find that most trackers run a heavily modified version of the open source ones that are listed in your post...

The simple truth is...

no one pays for a tracker source, unless they are a radish or two short of a picnic.
