I never thought you would actually do it. Audio Visual aids are always so much better
Can I suggest that everyone download these files. They are only ~30k and explain the concept better than a thesis of any length.
Eyes watering with laughter btw.
PS I hope this is not links to copyright material.

I have tears in my eyes too. That second pronounciation is so funny
More of that!
I suggest the following: everyone who has a mic records the word 'glottal' as she/he would pronounce it
I opened the thread because I had the same idea.Quote:

If you can't host the sounds yourself, then http://www.uploadit.org./ could be used.
If they don't allow *.mp3 just change it to *.jpg and we can change it back.
Liam may even consider hosting them for a wee while.
Send them to [email protected] (my alternative address for non-personal emails :D ).
Maximum size 100kb.
How about making it a sentence instead of a single word?
i have discussed with lamsey and we both give permission for netweiser to make a dance classic using our voices saying glottal.
omg skweeky has a nice voice.

I have Spider Dude's, sounds a wee bit Kingdom of Fife to me, sorry about that Spider, but it does.
It is an excellent couter-point with Lamsey's for nobwasher to work with.
Skweeky returns a file not found.
I fixed that just after posting, sorry about that.Quote:

Got it now.
Skweeky - you need to do one with the glottal stop as well. For comparison purposes.
I do agree you have a particularly nice speaking voice tho'.
Spider - Is it even possible for you to do one where you don't do it.
Wee person, another nice voice, though I am not surprised.
Come on now chaps, we need to hear it both ways.
Compare and contrast sort of thing.
jp old chap you need to post your version.
First of all: JPaul, where is yours?
Secondly, can you all do these words for me:
stop
top
pot
button
bottle
eighth
water
Third: that's the only way I can pronounce 'glottal'
I need it for school  (I really do, we need to do a comparative language study!)
Did someone call me???...................Oh sorry, you said Study :rolleyes:Quote:

Thank you, this really helps me a lot, I was already wondering how the hell I was supposed to compare the 7 different ways /t/ can be pronounced in English
Jonno, would you care to do a version? :) I need accents from all over the country
I'm going out to play snooker now... if anyone else wants to do it and doesn't have hosting, send the mp3 to [email protected] - I will upload once I return.
Remember maximum size is 100kb.

use sound recorder to make a .wav and then convert using a program.
Sounds more Ayrshire than Fifeshire to me Spider. :unsure:Quote:
/me sighs
Ok, I've got two .wav files. I have no idea how to convert them, nor can I host them. Can someone quickly host them for me? :)

i use cd-ex because i have it, but try googling for "wav to mp3" leave the quotes or the to will be missed out. skweeky ask FC to host for you or email lamsey.
I use CoolEditPro which is readily available to downlo...erm buy from Kazaa :D
