I'm looking into learning how to build a laptop and I already know alot about building Desktop PCs. I just need to learn how the parts are put together.. such as the battery pack, screen, etc.

I strongly doubt that you'd make any saving by building a laptop yourself. The individidual components are too expensive.
and they're not really readily available through regular retail channels.
how would u go about building the screen? is it just like a monitor and u connect it to the base?
Yeah, umm, there arnt many places that you can get hard drive parts, espically pieces like the screen, or the keyboard, or the case itself.Quote:

Although, I believe www.newegg.com has some empty laptops, that are missing a CPU, so I guess you could save a bit by buying it and a CPU, and maybe the other stuff if it doesnt come with it, but lord knows its hard to make sure you get them laptop back together.

its possibnle though i wouldnt really have thought it was worth it, in the same sense as a desktop, as the parts will be dear,and also trying to source them, u will prob find a few cheap ones. my g/f is just about to get one of ebuyer for £600, which is quite good. and not to bad specked either, for the price
even if you are not looking at it being cost effective but rather just to put it "under your belt" so you could say you've done it, you are talking about some seriosly small wires and connections, these things are normally assembled by robots (precise) sooo i would say that these are the issues i would say you would encounter:
A: ???why????
B: Most labtops have proprietary parts ie psu etc for each different model... sooo you would end up making a replica of a labtop that is already available...
C: to get the parts you would have to buy complet labtops and use parts(again refer to # 1)
D: $$$$$$$$$
E: WHY?????
F: make your own labtop = pain in ass
i wanted to do this but now i understand why i shouldnt.
