if you just wanna get online w/o the instant messenger just appear offline or you can just type in the wrong password and it'll be like type the right one in and you be like no or ill busta' cap... anyways youre still online when it asks you and you can just go into internet explorer or something thats what i do when i dont wanna talk to anyone
ok thanks
Or you can remove it with Add/Remove Windows Components.
Check here how to do it.
Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows XP all include the Messenger Service. It's enabled by default. Messenger allows system admins to send little messages to everyone on a network, alerting them when the server is going down, ect. The service makes a lot of sense on a corporate network, but home users don't need it. Here's how to disable it:
1. Right-click My Computer and click "Manage".
2. Click "Services and Applications".
3. Click "Services".
4. Scroll down to "Messenger" and right-click the entry.
5. Choose "Properties"
6. Under "Service status:" click STOP.
7. Under "Startup Type:" choose DISABLE
8. Click OK.
kill msn? get a gun and bang
. Right-click My Computer and click "Manage".
2. Click "Services and Applications".
3. Click "Services".
4. Scroll down to "Messenger" and right-click the entry.
5. Choose "Properties"
6. Under "Service status:" click STOP.
7. Under "Startup Type:" choose DISABLE
8. Click OK.
ha, i did all that to see what my messengers status was on and it said messenger was started and automatic, but its not open, and it never open unless i tell it to, which is never. :D
it never opens automatically which is weird since it sais it does.
easiest way is to go to program files, locate messenger, and rename it to off or messengerOFF or something. when it says it'll make some progs not run, say yes. and ur doneQuote:

that would definately do the trick, probably the most effective way too
but dont msn need msn messenger? if so you can keep it from starting up with windows or running in the bakground by tweaking its properties from the start menu
Just make sure you end it in task mangager, processes first.Quote:

go to msn.com and login or
open outlook express or
open MSN explorer (if u have it)
now look in task manager and look for messenger if it came back (very likely it will, cos there are other steps u might need to take)

Tweak XP Pro has an option to disable Messenger, if you are running XP. I used it because every time I would open Outlook Express the stupid messenger icon would pop up on the sys tray.
If you wanna exterminate it, use XpLite.
The easyest way.
You can destroy many other crap buildin winXP programs. :nuke: :ninja:
soon we won't have to worry about it, by early next year, look for a new copy of xp. cos m$ decided to disable windows messenger and enable the ICF (about time).

yea xplite works wonders. i removed so much crap fm my PC tat the boot time came down to 2secs fm 8secs(i have NAVce, still do) and wat impresses me the most is yahoo media helper scanned my system n i had wmp 0.0(not installed) showing. im using mpc, videolan, bsplayer, winamp & avipreview ;) on xp pro
life has never been better :D
is it a OS or is it a program? how big is it
