Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
by Rico Mossesgeld, June 5, 2010 via Computex 2010
" Silverstone's new hernia-inducing number will be available by the fourth quarter of this year, a company rep said.
One of the selling points of the new Silverstone TJ11 full-ATX case, on display at Computex 2010, is that access panels would be supported by a solid, one-piece aluminum frame."
But the frame of the demo TJ11 was clearly made out of several pieces. The Silverstone rep quickly pointed however that the unit was simply a mockup, designed to show off component layout and fan placement. He assured us that the final production case would be as advertised, when it hits the market by the fourth quarter of 2010.
In any case, the TJ11 will feature the same unconventional motherboard placement as Silverstone's current flagship Raven. Motherboards mounted on this case will expose their back-plates to the top, instead of the usual rear.
Directly below the motherboard mount will be two of Silverstone's AP181 fans, advertised as a new case cooling solution that concentrates airflow better than your usual case fan. The two AP181s will suck air in from the side, then blast it upwards towards the motherboard's components. A cover-plate goes on top to keep things neat. Silverstone believes this setup encourage the hot air to evaporate up out of the case.
Also apparent from the TJ11 mockup was the high number of drive mounts. Aside from the nine 5.25" slots gracing the front, and three 2.5" slots hidden somewhere inside, there are six 3.5" mounts on the bottom of the case. The latter are oriented towards the side, on slide-out rails to facilitate drive installation. Directly behind these slide-mounts (on the opposite side in other words) are two smaller 120mm fans for cooling. Last but not least, there's space for the PSU below the AP181 duo.
We're not sure how well Silverstone's compartmentalized cooling setup will work, especially considering that the AP181s have to suck in air through a relatively small side opening. For sure it will take a little money to find out. The TJ11's projected price will be in the $500 to $600 range. A figure totally justified according to the sales rep, to reflect Silverstone's provision of "its most advanced case construction and technology yet".

Quickly, some mod hide this thread from Detale.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
LOL That's so funny as soon as I read the tittle i said Oh it will be mine. Yeah I'm gonna have one soon. Honestly though I don't know if I like the IO panel facing up though. I mean I'm a computer wire neat freak these days and so I can't think of how I'd hide the wires coming out the top like dread locks :O I do have tons of stuff hooked up to the computer ATM so i may actually have to pass unless i come up with something for it.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
With the size of traditional HDDs going up and the ready availability of solid state drives, why do manufacturers still think their cases- particularly the high end flagship models- need space for so many drives?

Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Thats 1 ugly looking lump of alloy. No thanks.

IMHO, I think even though the size of drives are going up so are our needs. It's the same old story, the more you can get the more you "need". I have around 6 TB on my server and it's about half full. I reformatted and gave up all my stored movies and am currently re-dling them so I plan on being full up in a month or so. I will then need more drive space. Especially as I'm getting more and more blu ray images at 40-60GB a pop. Honestly I can see me going up to 10TB but I will need a housing for the disks. I was even thinking of making a simple case out of wood to save some bucks, Yes D is out of work so has no money for toys :(
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Ugly as hell, yet I can't stop thinking about how many terabytes you can store in this ugly piece of shit.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
It reminds me of a tank.
Do want, definitely badass.

Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Wow, that is the most horribly overpriced I've seen in a long time.
I'm happy with my P182SE (which, for the record, also has 6 HDD bays), thanks. Looks a hell of a lot better too (mirrored finish = hawt).

Shitty cell cam, but you ought to be getting the drift.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
See now that just wouldn't work for me. Oddly here in NY its 100 degrees and I have the side panel off the 800D with the air conditioner blowing right on her. So I can't even use the neat wire freak excuse ATM.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Prolly looks better in reality. I'd check one of the new ones out before I rejected the idea entirely if I were you.
But then I'm pretty partial to my raven in the picture there.
All the cabling, barring the power cable, comes out the back there at the top. Bundled it all together inside of one of them plastic things for routing cabling and now it sort of looks like a spine, I think.
If you remove the lid all the connectors are still easily accessible as well.
At any rate the raven brought my temps down by a fair few degrees. The mobo flip really improved on the airflow. Dunno how much you gain with a wc setup, though.
The new chassis does everything the raven does, only with a slightly better interior design and more room, as far as I understand it.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Don't get me wrong I love what you did there bud. I think I am actually having air flow issues with the WC setup. It is hot here the past few days (100°) but still I have to keep my side panel off to keep her in a comfortable range. When I save up a few bucks and before I get a new vid card, I may just opt for a bigger rad all together. Not sure if you've seen my custom GPU cooler but as it turns out the card still needs a decent airflow to cool well.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
What's wrong with this one?
http://www.tweakpc.de/hardware/tests...ldozer/i/3.jpg
Funny thing is this industrial piece of metal is an actual case, not a cad designer on acid (GMC R4 Bulldozer).
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Was that supposed to make some semblance of sense?
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Apparently not. It's a behemoth case for a fraction of the price.
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
i think i like the GMC design more than silverstone
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
would you actually spend more than 500$ for a case?
I just donīt think they are worth the ginormous price tag. I paid for my case 80€, and was easily able to overclock my Core I7 920 to 3,8GHz with 4 HDDs mounted, Graphics card, Sound card and there is still some space left...

I think, its the best way to spend money. No matter how much you spend on them, your part will get old and replaced in a year or two ; but a good case never gets old
Re: Silverstone's New $500+ Behemoth Case
but my cheap one will last just as long....
