A guy from Demon Internet told me today that from Nov 1st, Peer2peer transfers are illegal...??? This cannot be true surly. So, anyone on here know the real truth, and is the penalty really upto Ģ10,000? And is this worldwide or UK?

So, is it possible to run Kazaa without downloading copyrighted material you do not own?
If the answer to that is YES - (which I think it is), then surly running the program does not mean you are breaking UK law (pre Nov 1st)?
The whole reason I started this thread was that this new legislation is that it gives government and police in the UK new powers to trace IP's, and P-2-P users they did not have before midnight. I wanted to know if there were any users who knew more about this. Obviously I just found a couple of p*ss-takers. If you do know anything about this new UK legislation, please feel free to help continue this thread. If you DON'T know about the new laws (or don't care), then go back to what ever planet you have come from. The other two posts convinced me I am better off at the pub.

Whoever this Demon Internet is, they're dumbasses. There's nothing illegal about p2p in and of itself.
If kazaa is legal then I'd say kazaa lite is also legal. They just can't stop piracy so they are after P2Ps. At least they have to do sth... :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Anyone have more info on this Uk legislation - maybe i've been walking round this board blind but i can't recall seeing much posted about it.

Downloading/Uploading anything you don't have a licence to? Illegal.

K-lite is illegal, it is illegal in the sense that it has infringed on the intellectual property rights of Sharman networks(Kazaa), in the agreement with Sharman networks using KMD you are not allowed to alter there program and what not, k-lite being an altered version of KMD makes it illegal.
kazaa liute is not ilegal either is P2P in that case.

K++ is illegal in terms of its a modified version of Kazaa which Sharman has not authorized (and Sharman have been kicking up a fuss about it of late).
I too heard about some UK law that was to be implimented around October the 31st to crack down on filesharing but as with all the other scares and threats I've yet to see something that convinces me to stop sharing files :)

Simple way to look at this...
Downloading Non-Copyrighted/Legally-broadcastable material via Kazaa (original), or most other legal (i.e. Non-hacked/Non-modified etc) P2P program's is !LEGAL!. The original Kazaa, along with BitTorrent, eDonkey and many other P2P program's !ARE! legal in themselves. It's how people decide to use them that's illegal usually.
Downloading Copyrighted/Illegally-broadcast material via !ANY! P2P program is !ILLEGAL!. It doesn't matter if the P2P program itself is legal in this case, it's the actual use it's being put to that's illegal.
The original Kazaa program is !LEGAL!, as it's (supposed) purpose is for sharing !LEGAL! files via P2P connection's. The program itself does !NOT! become !ILLEGAL! when the files being shared/transmitted over the connection are !ILLEGAL! files, just the act of sending/recieving those files is the !ILLEGAL! act in that case.
Kazaa Lite !IS ILLEGAL! due to it breaking the EULA of Sharman network's by modifying the original file without their authorization.
Ok, that's not as simple as I intended, but I hope it help's clear thing's up and is actually accurate lol ;-)

Yes, there is new UK copyright Law that makes downloading copyrighted material illegal (before this, it was only uploading that was illegal).
However, you must read this in conjunction with IT/Communications law.
In the UK, monitoring someones communications, including the internet, is illegal for everyone except the Security Services...without a Court Order.
In other words.... the act is illegal, however gathering the evidence to prosecute is also illegal.
To everyone else...
Talking about the legality of Kazaa and K-lite is a little daft...as every countries/States laws are different.
In General....Kazaa is legal
K-Lite may be illegal.......depending upon how the country in question defines hacking.
K++ does not alter the source code, so in many places it is perfectly legal.
However, the way that the program is loaded has been changed, and the spyware removed.... in many places it will therefore be illegal.
