Terrible.. Simply terrible. Beyond terrible.
Don't even go close to them, they're that bad.
EDIT: Just kidding, they're actually very good :)
I am interested in why they are good?
For 10 euro you get a fairly large HDD compared to other similar priced plans. Anyone have any experience with them to share?
I've seen a few when trolling through swarms; what server hoster do they resell from, or is it their own?
I wouldn't buy an OVH/France slot if you are in North America. A couple times over the past few months I have seen my download speeds go from 600K/sec to barely 15-20K/sec for days on end. Then all of a sudden it will get better, but there is no warning when the speed will fall off a cliff. The server will leech/seed just fine during these times but you will struggle to get anything off of it to your home computer.
I'm trying out a new Leaseweb based slot from Feral. So far its ok, the speeds aren't as good as OVH because the servers are no longer sharing the same data centre. But at least its an option that isn't OVH-based. And according to a traceroute all of my data is being sent via Level3 which I hope would never have the same bandwidth/peering problems that OVH suffers from.
They are good because they are the cheapest while providing a comparable service, my experience has been alright with them so far, apart from the huge wait lines.
Other people have had trouble with them though, so im one of the lucky ones.
They are with OVH - the same as everyone else. Ive never had FTP troubles
The FTP issues only really show up if you are outside of OVH's European network. Over there its fine. But to places like AUS, NZ and North America it can really suck sometimes. I do wish they would drop the setup fee though. No one else, except for people looking for a dedi, really have them on individual slots.
Im using this box for one week and it is realy great. Speeds are on maximum from 100mbit.
For control you receive great web interface with integrated ruTorrent and other informations, like info about disk space, file manager, proxy and dropbox :)
Iam realy happy with this box for this great price. I think there is no limit for number of torrent in compare to other seedoxes.
http://pulsedmedia.com
GetASeedbox.com offers unlimited number of torrents too, unlimited traffic, lots of space and very good speeds.
So pulsedmedia is not the only one ;)
Take a look at www.slikhost.com too, they have the same too
Thanks, I might try them. Never tried a seedbox before. Want to try something cheap to see if it works out for me.
heard that 'ghost seeding' usually happened on Pulsed Media
What is ghost seeding?
Supposedly means you can trick a tracker by appearing to seed when you are not connected. This may happen with a client that will not properly report to the tracker that they closed a torrent.
Well, I signed up with GetASeedbox.net for a 1 month trial. I have got an acknowledgment that they have received my payment and I have to wait for 10 hours they are adding another server. We will see how it goes.
I finally got it running. Setup was breeze through the webGUI. All you need is to log in. Within five minutes I was downloading and uploading torrents. The first one about a 4 GB movie downloaded in about 10 minutes, and within a hour I was at a > 1 ratio.
Downloading to my home machine was little more challenge. Took more than two hours but that was mainly due to speed of my ISP. I was getting almost the full 7 Mb from my DSL. I use Filezilla and transfering files was a drag and drop of directries.
Highly recommend that people who haven't used a seedbox to take the plunge. It is pretty painless experience. And so far GetASeedBox have delivered on everything they promised. For the price it is deal.
I see 720 GB available on my disk. Will see how much of that I get to use on my 50 GB plan. I may upgrade my plan.
It doesn't, we run a standard rtorrent+ruTorrent setup, and given join date I suspect you are just one of our competitors trying to badmouth us :P
Probably should keep discussion about other providers out of a specific thread, but glad it worked out for you.
Ghost seeding with us? That's just total BS. We use standard rTorrent without customizations, and there's not a single report of "ghost seeding" happening with our services. -- Believe me, i'd know if it would be happening.
As for GetASeedbox and Slikhost: Our plans dwarf theirs easily. Our introductory plan, 2009+ Starter even starts from just 5.95€ per month :D Check them out at http://pulsedmedia.com
Our X2 plans are immense value for money as well, 30€ gets you 690Gb of storage :)
and if you got any questions, just e-mail us, we'll happily answer.
Why do you resell OVH servers at 2x Price?
Resell OVH servers at 2x price? I do not follow your logic here.
I actually went on ordering a contract with Pulsed Media after reading a sticky advertisement on this board. I am a first time seedbox user so not able to tell how they compare to others, but time from paypal confirmation and receiving login details was 25 minutes. An issue not being able to login via HTTP was resolved 1.39 hour after submitting the ticked on a monday evening. As for using it. It's so easy. Transfer to my home computer has been good using SmartFTP (using 4 threads). I'm very pleased with them.
Oh and the pricing:
ovh.co.uk asks for SP-09 Mini 42.67eur excl. 17.5% VAT, so customer price is actually 50.13eur.
We charge 49.95eur and no setup fee for that server excl. VAT. I would say that's quite cheap, especially for outside EU users ;)
As for shared servers, a lot of work goes into managing these servers, a lot of value adds etc. So it doesn't matter if we charge even 100x the base price of the server if the value added services covers for that difference. :)
We got the most flexible service offering with the most advanced UI for utilizing your seedbox fully, things such included web proxy, information, announcements, filemanager etc. :)
Thank you for your kind comment jalaffa, always makes my day to see a happy user! :)
I just registered for one..so far so good but I cant find any info on how to access ssh/ftp etc.
There's really no info needed, it's the same login & pwd as for http, and the same hostname. :)
I guess we should still specify that in one of the e-mails or KB
