Re: alternative to utorrent?
You forgot to say which OS you're using, and whether you're using a seedbox.
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
deluge is good, anything but modded utorrent :P

Would you care to elaborate? The only times I've had that issue is when I transcoded video to the same drive I was leeching on, and that's no more since I now have separate drives.
Anyway, I second Anarkial's comment, if your desire to switch is so big.

Re: alternative to utorrent?
I've only had that issue on failing drives. May want to run some drive diagnostics as it may not be utorrent causing your issues... At the very least, back up your data in case...
Edit: I transcode all the time on the same drive that I leech/seed on, and its an old IDE drive too. Guess I'm just lucky?

Re: alternative to utorrent?
Qtorrent is a very good utorrent alternative and best of all its open source http://qbittorrent.sourceforge.net/

I guess so, specially if your connection speed is better than mine. I use viDrop (which is a mencoder frontend) for those tasks, maybe which program you use makes a difference. Or it could also be the you're using a large disk cache in uTorrent - I used to work around the issue by setting it to 500MB.

Re: alternative to utorrent?
i don't use a seedbox i have fast connection i heard deluge it dosen't show disk overloaded but the speeds are lower than utorrent.
i'll give a try with qbittorrent...i'm using win7 x64 version

And I've heard Deluge can actually be faster and upload more in high-speed connections :ermm:
Just try it, I guess...

Re: alternative to utorrent?
that's nice but the deluge client dosen't have a stop option for torrents only pause?confused
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
I think pausing in Deluge is the same as stopping in uTorrent.
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. It does have the nice option of dividing by tracker though - basically only important for those who use a lot of private trackers.
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
Isn't deluge heavy on resources ? Also it does need the gtk libraries .
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
Yes, it does need the GTK+ runtime, which adds some bloat. However, I have a 6-year old PC and it can run the Java-based Azureus without any issues, so any modern computer should be able to cope with Deluge.

Re: alternative to utorrent?
Why don't you focus instead on tweaking your NTFS file system, like removing time stamps, smart placement, cache, etc ?
That would have a true impact on your performance.

And its 4GB filesize limit plus extra fragmentation? Thanks, but no thanks... unless you were joking, in that case please ignore this useless post :)

Good choice, but sadly, Vuze remains banned on a few popular private trackers. So, unless the thread starter feels like dual-wielding different clients... unless he's not a member there, of course.

Re: alternative to utorrent?
Besides what.cd, who else is banning Vuze?
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
ups... sorry, I didn't know(

PTPC for sure, then there were a couple of others whose names escape me. Maybe I'm just coming up with stuff. :idunno:
I know Waffles initially jumped on the Vuze ban bandwagon, but allowed the latest versions after some time.
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
So, the only relevant tracker which bans Vuze is What.cd.
That's ok.
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
i'm on NTFS system the cache stamp is tweaked... and vuze is very slow at connection...i don't care they banend what.cd & ptp because i;m not member of any of that...
i don't care about resources...
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
Don't care about resources, and your having a resource (hard drive access) issue?
Ok then...
-
Re: alternative to utorrent?
I think halite is the best alternative

Re: alternative to utorrent?
slow to connecting at peers & speed it's a big difference...i think the most close to utorrent is deluge
@tokeman i was talking about RAM,about HDD it's reading & writing with 50 mb/s...so it's hard to believe utorrent can't handle a 11 mb/s job....
it's a config problem somewhere...

I don't know what your connection speed may be, but I've never had that problem.

As Expeto said, Halite would be closer since it's coded in C++. Can't believe I forgot about it. :pinch:
