One reason could be seeing that shiny gold star next to your nickname, reminding you you're awesome. Another one could be that accounts that have donated a certain amount of money supposedly won't have their IPs logged into the database.

That's correct. Almost every tracker around logs the IP addresses of their users, unfortunately.
