MBM: you might want to check Halite out. It hasn't been updated for a while (August 2010) but it's very light and has most of the features available in the more "famous" clients - DHT, ipfilter support, protocol encryption and such.

If you're on Windows then I second anon's suggestion. Few years ago when I was using Windows I switched from uTorrent to Halite and liked it just fine. Lightweight and fast. Really dug it. Besides that Deluge you should probably look into as well. I don't know how good it is on Windows, but on Linux it's an excellent client.
