SPORTS-crazy Americans are being bowled over by the fastest-growing game in New York — CRICKET.

Baseball gloves are being swapped for pads as city sports chiefs launch a youth league with a dozen teams.

Interest soared after the opening of a 17-acre state-of-the-art cricket centre in Spring Creek Park, Brooklyn.

The area is traditionally a breeding ground for basketball, American football and baseball.

A second pitch overlooking the famous Manhattan skyline is already being built.

Parks boss Julius Spiegel said the craze is being fuelled by Asian and Caribbean immigrants. He added: “Cricket is the fastest-growing sport in Brooklyn.”

Yepp its about time and its a classy game. The rules shouldnt be too hard for them to understand either:

Every now and then you stop the game for a chat, a cup of tea, change tactics etc.
One team throws a hard ball at the other team member who has to hit it as hard as possible to run and score points.
The umpire is actualy listened to and is GOD!

So simple even the yanks should be able to master it :D :lol:

Cricket will interest those who like golf but not much more than that.
A guy that likes and plays American football or basketball will never catch on to cricket. It's not a "sporty" game. We might play it like we play miniature golf. <_<

mushtaq ahmed *he was the paki spinner for ages...he was small and dumpy looking...

and yeah i was thinking of going over to America to teach kids how to play cricket...but thats got to wait a while...i might do it after i go over to pommieland and play county cricket...i got a better chance of playing for england rather than Australia :P :lol:
