Alternatives to Library.nu
I have been a happy user of library.nu for more than 3 years now
and i loved their content and their cyberlocker model
Now that Library.nu(Formerly Gigapedia) is down/not available to normal users like me,(donors and higher classed members can access the site)
i would like to know if there are any alternatives to it?
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
have you tried some ebook trackers like bibliotik?
btw, I have no idea how library nu grew in the past few years, but I use to use it for free without sign ups back in the days, and I wasn't too impressed.

Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
thanks for the recommendations guys
but i am looking for alternatives which have nothing to do with torrenting
ebook torrents as we all know tend to die off, are not at all exhaustive, and are a bitch to seed back owing to the small file size
due to this warez sites like library.nu/avaxhome (ebookee,ebook30...) are much better suited for me
so please recommend me sites which follow the same model as library.nu and are as exhaustive in content as library.nu was
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
Try irc. It's basically all I use now for ebooks.

i wonder if they really do index 1.2 mill books as claimed?
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
I have not tried IRC for books (or anything else for that matter) but intend to - it's been suggested to me to try, for novels:
Server: Undernet
Channel: #Bookz
Server: IRCHighway
Channel: #ebooks
Warez-bb (they have a 'Fiction ebooks zone' under their ebooks thread)
http://www.warez-bb.org/
http://forum.mobilism.org/index.php
have an ebooks section
and http://www.freebookspot.es/Default.aspx
I haven't had a good look at the last two, but they're worth trying.

Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
PS I am a avid reader and find that Demonoid and MyAnonaMouse have nearly everything I want.
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
BookFinder, linked above, and Library Genesis ( http://gen.lib.rus.ec ) come the closest to making up for the loss of lnu content, of what I've seen.

Thanks a lot for the Library Genesis Link. It helped me find a book that I was looking for.

Any tutorial to share about how to use irc for downloading books?
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
Try these:
http://www.calvinshub.com/2008/11/ho...oks-from-mirc/
http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Bookz
I did (successfully!) follow the instructions in the first link, but I found a couple of things were slightly different - I think perhaps it might be using an older version of MIRC than what I had. I can't remember what exactly was different ... it was all a little much for me towards the end and I got brain freeze  ..... but it couldn't have been too different as I DID manage to download a book.
If you find any further guides or tutorials that are good it would be great if you could post them here.:yup:

i will try out the IRC method tomorrow,
but just one question, since IRC DLing is P2P model, are you obliged to "seed back"(irc analogue) in any way?
or is it completely voluntary to be sharing (or not)?

Actually adeey posted it first, I just didn't see his post for some reason.
And LazyGuy, no there's no seeding. You just download and you're done. Pretty great.

The IRC channels website is also fairly helpful too.
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
Thanks for that, really helpful.

Just search Google for cache:<link here> and if they have a copy, they'll show it to you.

You could also give I2P a try. I2P is an anonymous and decentralized darknet with a working torrent feature. A tutorial can be found here: https://rebuildingalexandria.wordpre...s-take-a-look/
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
Bibliotik just bit the dust.
Re: Alternatives to Library.nu
Their website says:
Bibliotik has shutdown all operations. We are no longer able to assume the risks involved. The staff would like to thank everyone that participated and made bibliotik such a great place for so long. We love you guys!
A big loss .......
