I heard that if I burn a music disc in the cd-burner's maximum speed, the quality won't be as good as if I burn it slower, is this true? what about burning movies?
Does someone knows what's the best speed for burning music and the best speed for burning movies?
I don't think the speed of burning has any effect on your music or movies.
Just make sure that if you burn at 32x speed the cd you bought to burn it on can also handle 32x speed.If you know what I mean?

Just stick with a slower burn speed. I have a somewhat fast machine (2.5 gHz P4 with 512 MB RAM) but I always burn discs at 10x even though I have a 48x burner. The higher the burn speed the more likely you are to have errors.

Only if you encounter problems with your burnt media, then lower the burning speed.

think about it, its data coming from the hard drive burning to a disc, so the higher the speed, the higher the resources required and more possibility of a problem!
maybe not the absolute slowest speed, but more times than not burning at a slower speed will give better results than burning at faster speeds, sync problems especially on movies
I know what you're saying mate; you obviously remember the first pc CD burners, back then what you're saying was certainly true.
Since the introduction of burn proof technology however, unless you are experiencing problems, there really is no need to burn at slow speeds. The process really is not such a random one and if, by trial and error, you find that your burner/media does a good job at 48X, then it will likely always have the same success. That is, as long as you aren't using other resource hungry software at the same time.

I always burn cd at the fastest speed the cd will take. If I buy blanks at 32x i burn at 32x. If I buy cd at 24x then burn at 24x. With the new burners out today and the software improvements, like the burn proof technology and the buffer underrun technology there is no need to burn any slower unless you have that stubborn file that give you errors then go slower, but you should be safe burning as fast as the cd will take it.http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/b/smiley2k.gif

I have a 52x burner and I always let Nero do this speed test first and then burn it at that speed, AFAIK i havent had any problems yet and i think if they sell 52x burner it will also be able to burn at 52x without fucking up cds ;)

well my burner is at 6X well because it an old one but still the cds are high quality
Almost every burner on the market has a huge buffer so that burning speed has little to do with quality. Burn at 1x or 52x, shouldn't make any difference. This 'old wives tale' has been kicking around since the days of 2x burners. :o
i normally burn my stuff with the second highest available for example:
a 48x disc i would burn at 40x
a 32x disc i would burn at 24x
and ive never had a erroneus burn or bad quality when burning music but as someone said every burner is different and a lot of the time it is trial and error

About a year and a half ago I burned my entire CD collection so that I would have nothing but worthless CD-r's in my car. That way if my CD's were stolen, I would only have lost about $100 in CD-r's instead of the $2600+ I actually spent on the originals. It took me about 3 weeks to do so, at 32x. I burned over 200 CD's. I couldn't imagine doing this if I burned at 1x the whole time.

I have a 40x burner with Buffer Underun and shit to stop from fucking up the cds but I still burn at 2x I was getting a lot of errors at burning at the fastest speeds like sometimes the burn never completeted at other times it completed but when played some songs played like they were scrathed even though their was no scraths on the cd. I have never had a error burning at slow speeds and it always works perfectly for me I have heard in the past that you should burn at a slower speed so that your dvd player, cd player or whatever can read it proplery because they read them at certain speeds a example 32x but if you burnt at 40x you might encounter problems.
I always burn at max speed (32x max) and never have any coasters, errors, or quality problems.

usually if this occurs it's best to burn the disc again at a slower speed
normally i burn at 40x and it sounds great everytime (cept once)
or possibly not buying cheap-ass CDs. :rolleyes:
my burner cna burn at 52x but I always and only burn at 16x because several tiems it burned with crackleing sound through it. neber had a problem since unless your total un impatient and can't wiat an extra 5 to 10 minutes stick with your 52x

When I copie from original cd I use 8 speed (max 52x)
:D Get a good Burner(TDK) and good CDRs(TDK) and Burn as fast as you want to.For DATA always 52x..as for Audio I do slow it down a bit.....48x. :P

ur burn speeds should b the same as the cd speeds......... burning a 32x disc on 2x will give u as much errors as burning a 16x on 48x........
Another brand to stay away from is Imation. I bought a big spindle of the things because they were on sale and they were the biggest waste of money. Every CD that I burned sounded scratchy it popped and skipped. I tried everything to fix the problem until I finally figured out that it was the CD's. I had to buy another spindle of a different brand and re-burn everything. What a hell of a sale. :angry:Quote:

ive had no probs with imation, thogh atm im using no branders which were £1 per 10...10p each; work fine, though i drop down to 32 spin just to be sure :D still only takes a couple mins
