I installed a Windows 8.1 torrent on my desktop, without problems.
On my laptop (with Windows 7), if I try to install Windows 8.1; it requests a serial number that I do not have.
Any advice?

What is the possibility to erase the whole disc, eg by DBAN and then try again?
That doesnt even have a release name so I cant do any research on what you grabbed. The prereleased versions will either skip the product key screen altogether or just allow you to enter all zeros. (00000-00000-00000-00000-00000)
The example also doesn't help. What does yours look like?

Content-wise, there's nothing wrong with torrents. Especially when grabbing something as prevalent as Windows.
Very inaccurate statement. In fact, many downloaded programs are easier to work with- as they do not have the bothersome DRM to fight with. The last time I tried to "go legit" with a totally bought-and-paid-for version of Window$, I gave up after calling their authorization # (over a period of 30 days, occasionally) and just ended up "authorizing" the thing myself.
