if u want the "fastest" and "best" hardware for ur comp. just go to newegg and then go to each catergory and pick the most expensive one :P  :D
Are you going to use it as a server?Quote:

No that is the point, I just wanted for work, games, programming...not a server, just a persnal comp...
So then don't use win server 2003.
seems like every1 these days wants the "best" pc......
That is true, but it doesn't mean I want a comp. like the 1 Bill Gates has, but I duwanna use a computerwith older kinds of hardware, so I dont get left behind.
Ok so what windows do you suggest? because I want a good windows...
Depends on the style of your house.Quote:

Some good double pane, argon insulated ones will help with your heating bills...

   how do u come up w/ these replys? i saw another one of ur in another thread but forgot it.
Lmfao, rofling, rofling -recovers- .1..2....3 ahh.
Should I buy the computer asssembled in a company like sony?
or should I collect the parts or order a one of my choice? I'm lost
collect parts and build it urself. most comp u buy, u can build for half the price
Make your own PC. Those mass produced preassmbled computers are really built with cost cutting for the most profit in mind. When you build your own you can choose each part you will end up with and it'll be much better.
That is an impossible question to answer.Quote:

When I was a mechanic, if someone asked "Is it hard to do *insert the task of your choosing here*?", my standard response was always "Not for me it isn't".
I think that assembling a PC from parts is not only easy, but fun.
You may find it baffling and frustrating.
There is no doubt that you can build a better PC for less money than the manufacturers.
Plus, you don't have to pay for all the bundled, crippled software that they will force upon you.
But, if you have doubts, then perhaps your best bet is to have a shop custom build one for you.
My local, little 3-man shop only charges $65 to assemble a custom PC.
There are local shops the assemble PCs for free here as long as you buy the parts from them. Even so, I prefer to assemble them myself.
Made a real big impression obviously.Quote:

I only assembled 3 comps b4  but I will try to get the parts and put them together myself, if I seem lost, I will just go to the guys who assemble it for me!
but I still dunno what hardware to buy.
What kind of budget are we looking at here?
Indeed, your budget, what you are going to use it for, and what you already have are the main concerns here.Quote:

Windows Version: Windows XP, 5.01.2600
DirectX* Version: 9.0b
Physical Memory: 254 MB
Processor: x86 family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 (P IIIE)
Processor Speed: 1002 MHZ (1500 max)
Intel® 82810 Graphics Controller
sux eh?
we are talking $1500-$2800 max
btw: which is better a labtop or desktop (in general)
Desktop.
More performance.
Less money.
So, how much money do you want to spend?
hmm. read above
It seems that the magic number lies around $2200-2500.Quote:

You can assemble a very healthy PC for that kind of money.
I didn't see that the first time. I thought it said 1500-2800 refering to MHz. :unsure:Quote:

Now that really is overclocking it.
The first time, the dollar signs weren't there.Quote:

He has cleverly edited them in.
You have been duped.
I know that now.
I thought he was refering to the speed of the new one he wanted. Not overclocking the old one. <_<Quote:

:D
there is a way to overclock the comp. using onyl software and a cooling FAN
it doesnt work for all cpus though.
So I will assemble my very own comp. I will go for it :)
You go, girl.
i jus pay for better speed.. overclocking has allways caused me problems. (even the tiny changes).Quote:

allmost pulled out Mr.Sledgey
That's true! the company ain't stupid that made the speed of ur CPU less than it's max ...they want to make them work for a longer period.
If you want to spend nearly 2 grand, you can easily buy a laptop, and still have enough to build a Desktop as well.Quote:

2 grand would allow me for instance to be VERY liberal with building one, even as much so to go with Intel, and even actually purchase software.
But for instance, I went over to newegg.com and threw this together.

Just under 1800, and we would ALL be jealous of it, it roxors. Still leave you with plenty of money to spend on a keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor.
Why would he need 1.5 GB of ram? Also why not an asus mobo? And that case looks kinda weird..but thats just my opinion.
Just stuff I was throwing together, and btw, there are other companies out there other than ASUS :angry:Quote:

Ok well ive never heard of that other brand so i was just wondering why he wouldnt get a really good name board...and 1.5GB of ram seems like a lil too much...it would save him like 80 bux to just have 1 GB and thats plenty. Other then that I like the system.
I THREW IT TOGETHER.Quote:

And besdies he could be doing Video editing for all I know, 1.5GB would be an advantage for that.
Okay, well, serious video editing.
John,
Two comments about the system that you cobbled together...
1) Forget the Zalman heatsink. Waste of money and too many disadvantages ( weight and size) for the purported advantages.
2) Looking at your sig, I'm surprised that you picked a board with a VIA chipset.
I wouldn't insist on Asus, but I think a nVidia chipset based board would be better.
While it's true that they are "not stupid", the chipmakers also have to plan for situations that may not exist in your computer.Quote:

I'm certain that they plan on the worst case scenario when it come to cooling, and from what I've seen the computer manufacturers deliver.
If you are willing to do some work improving your airflow/heat dissipation then I think you can safely OC (moderately) with no trouble at all.
My setup with a AMD 2600+ clocked up to 2300MHz runs almost 10C cooler than my Mom's eMachines with a stock 2200+ chip.

why not just that...my dream pc haha...well actually a server i think..but wouldnt having that ROCK?
Holly molly it's more than 6000 buckz, but it is a server anyways.
I will just go to Futureshop or best buy or sum other "Illegal" computer shops and ask for the best of everything. I hope I wont end up with 7000 bux :P
