What are some of your favorite classic video games?
A few hours ago I finished writing a list of my 10 favorite classic PC games on my gaming blog. I had a blast reliving these amazing memories. There are games that I simply cannot forget. Games that shaped my childhood and made it unforgettable. Thing is, each gamer has a favorite old video game. I would like to know yours, it doesn't have to be for any specific platform. Just tell me which games you miss the most, the ones that “tickles your nostalgic bone”.

Re: What are some of your favorite classic video games?
For me, It is always "The Mario" with regards as a 90's kid.

Re: What are some of your favorite classic video games?
Pitfall! though I guess that's technically not a PC game.
Castle Wolfenstein on the C64 would be next. Maybe Loderunner.

Pitfall on the NES as primitive as it was is somehow still more fun than the shit remake of AC3 I am now suffering through. Also have the original Loderunner on some DOS? thing stored in a drawer somewhere right next to Spyhunter. As for castles, I'd take vania over Wolfenstein any day.
I also just noticed that the OP has a "gaming blog" so apparently I'm not the biggest homo on this site anymore.

I know it is your birthday and all, but i did have to fix your inaccurate representation of a great classic, and saying that the original arcade/2600 "Pitfall" was actually brought out by Atari:whistling. Now if you want to talk Intellivision Pitfall?? It was shit compared to Atari's original, but much better than the Super version on the NES, and closer to the original:D
The other games i have no clue because they are not my cup of tea to play....
I am not sure if the OP gaming blog is some hang out for Egg Rolls?? and you being a big homo is whatever floats your boat......

To be honest Cabby, I never payed attention to the actual post but the Header of the Tread??
Just like the occasional bickering of the rules on the word games, most of the time i don't pay attention, and usually just followed Bigboab's lead (may he rest in peace and is really missed!!). What happens if there was 200 posts in this tread already?? Do you go back to the original posts??
And i guess being my age, when i started playing video games, there was no such public, or personal computer invented yet;)

You are right it was on Atari. I still actually have it too. I just pulled the box out and was going to post a photo to prove no bs but decided that was way too much work just to show that you can't always be wrong.:)

 :artist:
You want a true story!!, i begged my dad to get the Atari for the house to play, and all my friends had it, or the knockoff sears one, but of course the Intellivision was way more money and my Dad was a degenerate horse racing gambler!!, came home with Intellivision horse-racing and space armada, and astro smash!!. Now don't get me wrong AS and SA were great games, but the kicker is my piece of shit father never played the fucking horse- racing game once:angry:
And yes i still have the Intellivision in a box in my basement, next to the original Nintendo that came with the Robot and Gun;). Now saying that!!, I have emulator disks that go into the original Xbox that has every single one of those games plus. Now the other ones i remember coming out is Colecovision and the outrages priced Neo Geo and the gimmick was that you could put a save card in and then go to the original Arcade Game and start playing from where you left off...
Plus i am pretty sure i did mention to you many moons ago that i actually met my wife 36 years ago in a arcade we both hung out at, Bathurst and Wilson Video Invasions:D
Again Cabby, were you even out of diapers yet  and there was no such thing as a personal computer!!..........

Activision, actually.

Re: What are some of your favorite classic video games?
Pitfall got a sequel on the first PlayStation called "Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle". The collision detection was somewhat flawed, but everything else about it is top-notch.

Yes your are right that was the game distributor, one of my good friends was the VP of sales for Activation, but not the console to play it on, so i should have said it was made originally to play on the Atari console not the NES;)
I actually forgot being a socialist, words do matter :P

If we're talking about classics then probably has to be Tetris. I can play that all day.
But there were so many good classics back in the 80s-90s.
Oh and one of the best FPS classics would be Doom, Quake, wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem running on my awesome GFX card Voodoo 2 with 12mb!!

Re: What are some of your favorite classic video games?
I had an Atari 400 as a teen (paid for with my first term UNI grant- back in those impossible days we were paid to go to uni). At the time it had the best GPU (before they were called that) ever witnessed, yet sadly the vastly inferior C64 was the mega hit.
But it gave me my first experience of classic arcade gameplay, cos of its flawless scrolling, sound system and colour system. There was a dev called Synapse Software that did ORIGINAL arcade style titles, and on the Atari (and only on the Atari- the other system ports were rotten) each of their games was an instant classic for me. The games are little remembered, since their ports to systems with terrible graphic hardware (like the C64) lost every bit of their charm. The PC ports, in CGA 'colour' were particularly dreadful (tho probably sold more copies).
Games like: Shamus, Necromancer, Nautilus and Picnic Paranoia. They were particularly skilled at sprites in character set methods. Remember neither the Atari 400/800 or Amiga or C64 did hardware sprites correctly. Only when Nintendo and Sega started doing consoles were hardware sprites correctly implemented. The American problem was that basically one guy was responsible for all the graphic chip design (at Atari and Commodore), and he didn't get how arcade machines implemented sprites.
But the Atari home computers were a big hit with coders cos of their best-of-class hardware sub-systems, and games desigined first for Atari 400/800 hardware looked and felt amazing.
Couple of years later I had an Amiga (and Atari ST which did all graphics in software), but never felt the same way about games on that system.
Two Atari games really grabbed my time. M.U.L.E. is a 4-play (the Atari had 4 joystick ports) board game of rightfully legendary reknown. And 4-player RPG adventure Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves.
Dungeon Master blew my mind on the ST.
And then of course, iD's first Wolf and Doom on the PC.

Re: What are some of your favorite classic video games?
My favorite has to be Tempest. First stand-up arcade game I ever really connected with. So simple in its design, but the unique spinning control knob worked perfectly to make it fast-paced and fun.
