Not particularly, but then again I only went when there was a movie I highly looked forward to watching, and with friends. The last time was Interstellar on December '14.
Yes.
I generally only go once or twice a year, but I have really missed it over the past 6 months.
I really miss. Haven't been to the cinema for almost a year due to the pandemic
Not really. I can watch a crap CAM of some random film without needing the experience. Granted it is a bit different taking the kids for a treat in which case yeah I do miss that part (overpriced sweets and drinks apart)
Not really. Last film I saw was 1917 just so I could try and experience the scale (see that it's now on Amazon Prime). But with the price, the never knowing you are going to have Guinness world record holders in the big head category in front of you, or disruptive muppets - its so much aggro. That and worrying about the sound levels (don't want to make my tinnitus worse...). We just have regular movie nights at home - no ads, food, drinks, good company and bonding - all nice and predictable at a fraction of the cost and no hassles.
I certainly miss the collective oohs and aahs of a theatre but having my own snacks and bathroom and pause button has plenty of advantages.
I spent a good wad of money on home theater stuffs.
Missus J made me divest.
She said the speakers were too big.
Yes :(
Absolutely. But the Pause button on the TV for pee breaks and snacks won out years ago...........
The last movie i saw in theaters was the movie 2012
I used to watch almost every movie I was eagerly waiting to release. So yeah I miss it quite a bit. I love the whole experience of going to the ciname getting a huge tub of extra buttered popcorn and a soda and just enjoying watching it on the big screen.
Yes, I do, but only for a handful movies which got all delayed, like the latest Bond. Otherwise I'm a fan of home watching with friends and family.
Of course. I didn't realize I missed it so much until I started watching True Detective S1 again on my banged up laptop. Granted, nobody's ever going to show that on the big screen, but the cinematography and lighting must surely stand out that much more on the big screen. On a side note, I was also watching CYE, and Richard performs Flowers for Algernon (didn't know about the novel till I watched the episode; a good read if anyone wants to give it a go) on the stage, and it made me miss watching plays too. Esp. since Richard eats all of Larry's licorice and ends up doing the unspeakable on stage. Watching actors patch up lapses live is more interesting than I was willing to admit.
I don't miss movie theaters, there's no pause button if you have to pee.... also never was much for crowds, even when I was younger, I'd go to a matinee instead of a 1900 0r 2100 show.
I do miss the theater.
Or more specifically the theater that had just opened near me only months before the proverbial COVID sh!t hit the fan.
The new theater included an above-averaage full-service restaurant, large arcade and the theater itself had food/drink service to your seat, which was a large soft lounge-chair with power-recline.
They still haven't reopened, and I fear they never will.
Now I have to go to the mall to see a film, and possibly duck bullets in the process.
So many fantastic businesses lost - most of them unnecessarily.
Yes, I do miss them in another way... the popcorn was better...
(Having 14 or so of your mates lining up taking up a few rows... and the great conversation... [sometimes brief arguments] ...discussing the pros and cons of a film you all just viewed.) :alien:
Yeah, good times. {sigh}
Resurrecting an old thread I know but I never knew that I'd be as happy as I was being back in a theatre and having the back of my seat kicked the entire time during a movie.
Can't quite replicate the theater experience at home specially for movies like A quiet place. I don't miss them either.
What I miss are the 3D iMAX movies everything else my home setup is fine. I have 55 inch LG OLED TV and a ATMOS sound system.
Cinemas have recently begun to open up here after our so called "2nd wave" died down. Cinemas can only be allowed to operate at 50% capacity though. Wanna go watch the new Fast and Furious and Shang Chi but almost everytime I try to they full at capacity. They won't even allow online bookings. You gotta go to the counter show that you've been vaccinated with atleast one dose and only then will they sell you a ticket. And everytime I go back disappointed. Guess I'll just wait for them to come on an OTT platform and watch it at home.
I don't miss the noisy eaters in theaters.
The only thing I'd go back for is 3D IMAX. For home theater, I've settled on VR (Oculus Quest). Which would be great for 3D too if you could get any releases any more.
I don't really miss theaters, though taking my kids occasionally would be nice. Thankfully there is a drive-in nearby.
Better watching the movie at the comfort of your own home vs. theaters where people just don't shut up
I miss them. Used to go regularly before the pandemic. But unfortunately dumb people starting hollering at the screen and using their cell phones. So now if I were to go, it would be a day showing, two weeks after the movie comes out
I might make the exception for Dune, but otherwise, a hard no. Mobile phones, sweet wrappers and crisp packets grind my gears.
Mostly no. I really enjoy watching movies in the privacy of my own home. The concessions are less expensive as well.
Movie theatres use to fill people's need for having shared experience. Same but different like how there use to only be three TV networks and everyone watched shows at the same time and then talked about them the next day. It was a form of bonding. Now the many have become one and the one thinks it is the center of the Universe. And one wonders why the World is currently so fucked up.
Nope, can have my beverages and pause, rewind, to get a snack or bathroom break at home.
