i was at microcenter on black friday, and they had a water cooled clear mid tower set up with p4 3.0 (not oced) with a radeon 9800 (non pro). i ran the 3dmark03 they had installed, and it got 2089. i just ran 3dmark03 on my rig, and i got 2583. wtf? how can a 9600 not oced beat a 9800?
btw, my rig is in my sig
and all the settings were the same on both pcs. no aliasing or anything. and double framrate thingy. still, i somehow beat a 9800. wow

ok, when i first when there, they had the gargoyle clock thing running, but i turned it off to do the benchmark

they could have had less or slower ram then you
3dmark03 is more a test of graphics card performance and the ram has very little to do with it the score compared to 3dmark2001.....it could be possible that the settings for the card were at full with aa and af at max....this would decrese the score...scores ppl usually state for this benchmark are taken for 3d03 with aa and af switched off

did u check in the ati control panel cos that is where u will find the settings which force aa and af....even if u disable aa in 3dmark, if it is enabled in the ati control panel then 3dmark will use it and ur score will suffer
better mobo, better hdd? just thinking of things u could have...restart lately?

besides, my hd isn't the best. it's a maxtor 120 gb. i'm pretty sure they had similar

ok. good point. well, how much better is a maxtor 120 gb compared to their "top o line" display pc? certainly their hd is at least 7200 rpm. it's hard to find any hds lower than 7200 rpm nowadays
it's impossible to say with any real accuracy whether their hdd is faster or better than yours without the specs, however, if it's their top of the line drive, it should be pretty quick (either 8MB cache IDE or SCSI)Quote:

if u want to c how well ur hd performs abu run the hd benchmark(might be called filesystem or sumthin..cant remember) in sandra and then compare it 2 some of the other specs that are there
FSAA means "full screen anti-aliasing" and basically it is an attempt to remove "jaggies" (jagged edges in games)Quote:

True; also, your pagefile is on the hard disc and as such hard disc speed affects the performance of the computer as a whole.

Comparing with it ON and OFF Dang having it on makes it look a LOT better! check out those 2 pictures from that link.
yeah, the differences can be high, however, aa and af may cause a huge reduction in performance, depending on the level applied and the system spec :)Quote:

switch aa on as well....just slide the bar in the ati control panel up to high quality and c if that does anythin

antialiasing smoothes the edges of objects, so that they look less jagged and staircase-like. anisotropic filtering improves the appearance of the textures (the surfaces)-- generally makes them look more clear and sharp. ;)
