surely there must be something wrong with my setup if i only got a 980 in the benchmark test 3DMARK03.
is this what i should be getting on my geforce fx 5200?
my specs are all stated below.

3d mark 03 is heavily dependent on the graphics card in the system
try 3d mark 2001 and see what you get in that...
No shit Sherlock.Quote:

Graphics card is all the 3D mark is testing. :P

512MB Corsair XMS3500 (2-2-2-5, 333MHz)
ASUS A7N8X-D
Tyan Radeon 9600 Pro (520/610)
120GB Western Digital 8MB cache HDD
80GB Seagate 2MB cache Hdd
52/24/52 Lite-On Cd-RW
420W Thermaltake W008R PSU
:)
thats a nice setup, but can sum1 tell me if i should be expecting a higher result than that (because i need 2 upgrade my motherboard to an 8xAGP)
or is this the highest result i can expect from a geforce fx 5200
well, to put it into perspective, when i had my GeForce 3 Ti200 (exactly the same spec as above, except different gpu), i was getting in the region of 900-1000Quote:

so your score seems pretty fair :)
surely the fx5200 128Mb is a way better card than the average Geforce 3 / 4 64Mb
you'd think so, but the truth is that the fx5200 is on a parallel with the low end GeForce 4MX series, albeit with true DX9 supportQuote:

if i knew that i wouldnt have bought it.
grrrrr
your spec should still be adequate to run games for the next year or two, if only at reduced details/resolutionsQuote:

dude. since ur cpu isn't that good, ur score is low. my gfx scored about 1400-1500 on the 3dmark03, but i had a oced p4. ur score is ok for now. u might wanna oc ur cpu a lot
oc'ing the cpu on 3d mark 03 will make a very slight difference to the score in comparison to oc'ing the gpuQuote:

can u guyz please tell me how to OC my stuff?
i wanna do it as safely as possible. but i'll do it if it means increased perfomance.
i believe Riva Tuner is a good nVidia overclocking utilityQuote:

you shouldn't try to jump too high when overclocking, start off with small increases (e.g. 5MHz a time), until you start to see "strange" things on the monitor, e.g. pixellation or artefacting. then go back to the last good settings.
remember that the amount of performance you will gain through overclocking isn't usually very high (10% would be very good), so don't get your hopes up
also remember that overclocking can be dangerous and you may end up with a broken graphics card (though this is unlikely if you take your time)
good luck :)

ocing ur graphx card by small increments is fine. jsut make sure u test it.
and u can also oc ur cpu, since u have an amd. change ur multiplier, and make sure u got good hsf or wc or w/e u use. cpu speed is also needed for good benchies
it's a lot easier to oc the gpu than it is to oc the cpuQuote:

also, the increases seen in 3d mark 03 from oc'ing the cpu would be very small in comparison to oc'ing the gpu :)

but a gfx 5200 usually doesn't ahve a fan. so u can't oc it too much. but ur cpu can take a lot. especially a amd. there's a lot of shit u can do with an amd. increase multipliers, increase clock speed (duh). and so on. i only recommend this cuz it not only increases performance in games and benchies, but also ur pc as a whole. like when u encode video, or u render animation. and so on.
Its just to make ppl think exactly that.Quote:

Dont worry about the benchmarks.
If your happy how your games run fuck the benchmarks. They just want to to say
"man this runs shit, time for an upgrade" so you can spend more money.
My Geforce4 mx440 runs super shit in the benchmark but my games run ok.
yer but i aint all that happy about the game experience. LOTR the return of the king isnt that 'HARDOUT' of a game, yet i can only really enjoy playing it in the lowest resolution. But then i could also play it in a higher resolution where its more like a powerpoint slideshow than a game.
also halo is shit. i think it is time to do a serious upgrade.
could you guyz give me more hints/tricks on OC. is that download link that you gave me a good programme?
fk off abu, that cpu will do most tasks, i have the same one, i never had no problems with it everQuote:

The 5200 is a low end card. It is in the category of Home/ Home office. Its not for gaming really, but it will game and do a pretty good job. Dont expect great gaming from it though. If you want to do a lot of gaming and make it look good, you will need a good card. 5700 Ultra or 9600 Pro if you dont want to spend a ton.
Woof ;)
Abu only seems satisfied with the very latest equipment, not everyone has money to burn needlessly
lol yer i blame it on the fact that i still go to school and i dont have ne money
   omfg!!
i got like 1174 on the benchmark with nothin running!!
YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP

I got a 44 on the test! BE HAPPY WITH ANYTHING OVER 44! lol ahhh thats embarrasing...a 44!!!! on 3DMARK03!
uhhh be happy w/ anything over 44? dued, your pc is from 6 years ago....
ur processor clocked is crappy and its a celeron....which is even worst. your ram is pc100.
im starting to wonder how u ever get this thing running.
lmao i got 156....w0ot
That would be the graphics card ;)Quote:

I got a 505,but my card is not DX9 and it is only running at 4x instead of 8x due to my mobo.
hey. i'm a poor hobo living in a box. my pc in my sig, it's still 646. all the extra add ons i got were free. the radeon 9600 is free, well, after i sell my old card. and the 30 gb hd is from my old pc. the $20 500 watt psu, i got it by selling my speakers to my friend for $30.Quote:

lol. but ur pc is still better than my other hp. it's got 11mb of onboard shared mem. lol. and i can't even upgrade ram, cut it only takes pc100 or less. lol. ur not too bad bigdawgQuote:
