Getting Lost Clusters...

I've been using KaSaA for more than a year with no problem.. I just re-installed Windows to do a general clean up.. everything is now updated, configured and running fine.. a new lean machine again.

However, the KaSaALite 210b3e I have been using for a while without problem was locking the system and I was getting lost clusters reported in Norton.. the retrieved clusters showed mp3 file information, Artist's name, track titles, etc with many references to KL. I uninstalled it and downloaded KasaLite 242 but I'm getting exactly the same problem.
Everything else on the computer is running sweet. WinAmp 5.01 has never sounded better (playing anything through KL sounds just plain ropey btw but that is not the problem here..). It is even bringing Microsoft Office 2000 to a crashing halt...

Help. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried scandisk (98/me) or chkdsk (for XP)? Or have you tried defragmenting?

Try deleting your dat files or removing them to a duifferent folder One at a time.Could be one of them is corrupt.

Not if you delete your dat files.

hold on... which dat files are we talking about.. there's only unins000.dat in the kaza folder and localize.dat in the kazupermodes folder

I was talking ablout any files you had downloading them dat files .

aahhh... gotcha.. good idea.. i'll try that..

hmm.. i deleted ALL the dat download files and it seemed to be downloading stuff and running ok.. so i tried to open Excel (which it has been crashing on regularly after KaSaA has been in use.. ) Crash..!

H/o, are you using KaSaA or KaZaA? Ive never heard of kasaa, and if you got that, it could be a virus.

FYI Norton speed disk is a program to defrag

Suggest you try fully uninstalling and removing all traces (do the usual things like AV sweep, ad-aware, clean registry, then reinstall current version - 2.4.3 or higher (recommend Clean 2.4.4) - go HERE to download. If that doesn't do it then I'm buggered if I know.

When KL++ starts to download a file, it hasn't allocated space on the hard drive for the WHOLE FILE. Windows usually just thinks the file is 0 BYTES in size till KL++ exits properly.

If KL++ crashes, these files are corrupted because windows still thinks they're 0 BYTES in size, but the space those files used is still used!

A Scandisk, chkdsk/checkdisk, Norton disk cleanup whatever will fix this until it happens again.

HOWEVER, do NOT try to run Scandisk, chkdsk/checkdisk, OR Norton disk cleanup while running KL++!!!
(It can seriously corrupt a hard drive in theory...)

In short, it's a WINDOWS bug... although if KL++ crashes you could call it a KL++ bug if KL++ was 'at fault' for the crash.
