Whoops, Sorry Jonno babe, I'm a bit slow. All that alcohol from the past few days has killed major pieces of my brain
i found a piece of glass with some white powder on it
As far as horseshoes are concerned, i did hear that the horseshoe must hang with two ends pointing upwards, or else or your luck will run out - do you believe that??
Also, if you have an ornament of an elephant, then its trunk must also curl up at the end - is this just old wives tales?
Peace
UKMan
You had major parts??........Maybe thats what's wrong wiv me
Jonno B)
White powder??? Where???? :D
I thought it was the other way around with the horseshoes
I'm just glad it didn't land on your rabbit's foot :)Quote:

A horseshoe, hung above the doorway, will bring good luck to a home. In most of Europe protective horseshoes are placed in a downward facing position, but in some parts of Ireland and Britain people believe that the shoes must be turned upward or "the luck will run out."

I didnt think of it like that. I wonder how it came about then?Quote:

I think it's like a seafaring thing, animals and women on a boat are bad luck, therefore the foot of a rabbit could be lucky or something
Fisherman make me laugh, green is very very very bad luck, but seaweed is green

You're right, that doesn't make sense at all
Something to do with getting seasick perhaps? :x
They also say that women on boats bring bad luck, but why do they allways refere to ships as "she/her" and give them female names??
Peace
UKMan
Then could it be that they wouldn't want the ship getting jealous of another female on board? <_<
I thought a naked woman on board was good luck, hence those figureheads of women that ships had ;)
...... - gimme a couple of minutes to digest that one .......... :lol:Quote:

walking under ladders
black cats and spitting/turning around
throwing salt over da shoulder
walking on pavement slab lines
dont leave money on the table
dont cross yer knife and fork
first person to enter the house on new years eve/morning has to carry a piece of coal
any more you can think of??
When I was a fisherman I used to wind the others up by wearing green waders, whistling all the time and carrying a plastic cow in my pocket
Jonno B)
Putting an umbrella up inside
how can I only think of one more? I am sure there is plenty we havent thought of <_<
EDIT - Plastic cow? Why?
I found this link that tells some sailor superstitions (there are a lot) but apparently a woman on board angers the sea whilst a naked woman will calm the sea (sounds to me like the sailors were just a bunch of perves  )Quote:

another superstition for you: Friday the 13th
what's so scary about this?
Breaking a mirror should bring 7 years of bad luck?
Nonsens!
What power in this world should create that? (or any above that..)
I'm not superstitious at all.
;)
