Hello, I am putting together a new PC for the first time and I am wondering if there is any specific order the components must be connected in? I ahve the mobo screwed in place, but now does it matter say if I put in the ram or if I put in the processor? is there any specific order in which everything goes?

y do you have the mobo screw in place when you dont have the other components installed first? it just make it harder.

did that and thouroughly read it as well, but nowhere did i see it saying if there was a specific order, my problem is that my processor doesnt get here till tomorow but i have the rest of the components, so i am starting it now, but on the guide processor is about 2nd in line, can i put the rest in and leave that till later??

If you're new to building PCs then you should follow that guide step by step. If you want to be safe, don't try to rush things. Like you said. you're not gonna be able to get things running till your CPU arrives, so there is no point rushing and maybe even breaking things.
You probably can put other things in first, like the guy above me said. But, like I said above, is there any point rushing even if you can't get it all done anyway?
Btw, one thing here, and coming from a person who has put togther aruond 20+ computers,
Just use logic, and you will be fine on most things. As long as you dont leave the installtion of some thing out COMPLETELY, you will be fine. Like, there will be little difference between installing your CPU, and HS/F, and Ram before one another.
The important thing is that you actually do install them, and correctly.

Be careful!
Another thing is to make sure that all the risers that your board screw to are ligned up right and there are none gone a stray.If one of them is out of place your board will be screwed on first boot.
I think it's a lot easier to install the chip and HSF with the board out of the case.
Also, make sure you know where all the front control headers ( on/off, restart, indicator lights, etc.) plug in...those can be a bear to find with the board in place.
yea, i think thats what kliterock was trying to say :P ....but also, amke sure your jumper are correct...especially the cmos jumper...if its set to "clear cmos" your comp will not start.....thats what happen to me on my first comp. took me almost half an hour to figure how to fix itQuote:

Make sure you connect the power switch connector to the motherboard :lol: , its amazing how many people i know who thought their mobo was faulty because they didnt know they had to plug in this connector. :lol:

Not always true.
Alot of times, you can boot it, it will just not retain any changes you make to the BIOS/CMOS during that boot.

@john, didnt know that, my two comps wouldnt start if i set it to clear so i though that was the case. either ways , make sure its set to normal

It should have been £1300, but me being me i got it for £650.
It's a P4 3.06GHZ HT
1 GB ram
140GB HD
Geforce FX5200 with 128MB
DVD RW -/+
Tv tuner (Giga Pocket)
Firewire
USB 2.0
LAN 10/100
Loads of software bundle to, So i can't complain.
Just need to know the right People, it was bought legal so no back of a lorry, so i get me 12 months support for Sony to :D

I bet if you used cheap parts you could do that yourself.
Still, I think the 12 months guarantee is worth at least something. You can give 'em it back if it blows up or something.
For pure ease of assembly, I would assemble most of the components onto the board before screwing it in, making sure its not touching any potential static, then screw it in....the exception to this being the graphics card, because it will only get in the way when you are lining the motherboard up

Ive got to admit, ive never seen a 140 gig hard drive
The Sony PCV34245 whatever he posted, I Googled it and it came up showing it had a 160GB hard drive.
I, as well have never seen a 140gb Hard Drive!!
Except for once...on a Powermac G4....<_<

If that is the case then I don't think he got a very good deal unless computers are extremely expensive where he is from.
My sister just bought a Sony computer a couple of months ago with almost the same specs for 1800 Canadian(with 15% sales tax already added) but it also came with a digital camera,the desk,an all in one printer and I believe she got a few other things with it.
PS- Sony computers suck.She only had hers up and running for one week and the damn thing just died.Sony made her send it to their office in Toronto for it to be fixed.They told her she would have it back within three working days (I believe) or they would replace it with another one.She never got it back for nearly three weeks and the would not give her a new.
