wow this kicks ass, it picked up all kinds of shit that adware didnt, but once the scan is done, wut do i do? can i exit? is the stuff automatically dealeated?
you'll need to click on "fix selected problems" then you'll be prompted if you want to delete them :)Quote:

was runnin the virus test that DVD posted
if your not sure about any of em being needed files,
leave em in quarantine for a week or so (theyll be safe there)
make sure you select the 'imunize' button too ;)
and then if you dont have any probs, delete the files out of quarantine
and be sure to check for updates too :)
dide, spybot keeps crashing, it loads for like 4 seconds and then crashes, wuts another good spyware thing

dude, have you checked your IE settings?
look in tools>internet options>settings>view objects
delete all that shit, if you need it later (at a legit site) it'll prompt you
(legit meaning if you do online scans that need installed active x)
and thats another thing, have you AV scanned?
some trojans redirect your browser too..........

FKDUP74 beat me to it.... :P Sounds more like a trojan/worm than adware. Adware usually just serves up banner ads and pop-ups going off like pagers at a dope dealer pick-nick. Spyware is just that, a spy. It hides in the background and peaks 'over your shoulder', so to speak.
Now some websites are known for redirects. I've been on some that wouldn't let you leave, no matter what you URL you put in, fav's clicked.....you had to close the Window to escape. If your having probs installing spybot or other software, that sounds like a virus. Some virii hijack and re-direct your browser to a certain website. :ph34r:
Empty out your cookie folder & your Windows temp folder. Take out the index.dat file. Make sure that your browser's home page is unaltered. Update your anti-virus and do a FULL system scan. Then after a nice reboot, try to re-install spybot. It's kickass. Update the badboy and let it do a full system scan.

SON OF A WHORE. so i figure all is well, so i go 2 unstall avg virus skanner, and it does. and i wana pause a dl so i kicl no i dont want 2 restart now. and about 30 seconds later my comp turns off by itself, and it goes back on saying something about the registry and this avg thing.
and that god damned smart search is bak. i ran shredder, and it removed it, and it worked 4 a min but now shredder acts just like spybot.

Well, the best spyware remover I used was Spy Sweeper 2.2, even though Ad-aware has more feeatures. Don't use the trial, just get the full version (not hard to find). I've also used it to remove trojans, and I've seen it pick up minor viruses.
As for AVG, I would have restarted for an uninstall.
What version did you use? 7.0 is great. The free versionis great too, but not as good as 7.0 pro. With 7.0 you get this great option to do a detailed complete scan. I haven't seen anything yet that can escape it. :P
For cookie removal, and general system performance, check out Window Washer 5, a webroot product, like Spy Sweeper. Great App!
After, cleaning with Spy sweeper, I would use AVG 7.0 detailed complete scan, then clean the registry using RegSeeker and then restart.
RegSeeker is free and no install needed.
I have a question though.... What version of Windows are you using? I've never had trouble like that except on systems running Windows ME ::shivers:: Worst os ever....

dude, if you're runnin xp, TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE!
i shoulda remembered before (losin my mind)
if it is a trojan, or maybe even nasty ass spyware,
it can restore itself with system restore
sorry i forgot to mention it before :(
and youll probably have to close all open apps,
maybe even have to go into safe mode (but use that as a last resort)

1) save ur dloads (the stuff u like/need)
2) reformat your HDD
3) after installing XP (or longhorn :D ) search KaZaA for Zone Alarm Pro v4 (or buy it. its only 30-40 bucks and its worth it (PCMAG sez so at least)
4) set up the settings/the key and ur ready 2 go (btw after u get zaPro, go to the Program Control Tab, make sure the top tab "Main" is selected, hit the "Custom" button in the first frame which sez "Program Control," and then enable "Advanced Program Control." (im so mad that PCMAG didnt do this in their tests!!!!! THOSE ASS WIPES :angry: )
5) enjoy your new inpenetrable adware-and-spyware-free environment
