Shutdown if nothing is downloading.
But got to shutdown more often to save power now mum and dads huh
Before I went to watercooling I used to shut down at night.
Now I don't because I am Folding 24/7 and trying to optimise the cooling setup.
After I get things the way I want them I'm not sure what I'll do.
I leave mine on.
me tooQuote:

Only now & again recently...because i still havn't got around to puting thermal paste under my new cpu yet i bought a mnth or two ago. :)
i leave my PC/Server all the time.
it only is only rebooted now and then when i have installed an app which has to restart the pc to take effect.
im downloading mainly 24/7 on the PC/Server.
i never turn it off (except for pc upgrades and the like). no reason to turn it off, and its reltivly quiet, plus im always downloading something. and during the night i play music on it.
Used to leave it on. When I realized I was the one paying the electric bill, no more downloading :D
leave mine on (the 1 that i described earlier, with the p4ee and the abit mobo
why? mainly cuz im dloading 24/7
when im dloading at night, i set the fan to half speed and i reduce the # of progs running (why keep a full running fan when u dont need it???)
speaking of which, i ran out of peltiers. any1 kno where 2 get some?
24/7. I only reboot when I need to.
my old pc i used to shut down whenever it wasnt used, and never downloaded with it as it was far to noisey, used my laptop for downloading a it quiter. near silent. but since i got my new pc that been on a few times downloading., and since folding@home, my laptop hasnt been of, and pc is usally left on aswell now.
24/365 except when upgrading.
Never reboot unless absolutely necessary. I've got a prog which effectively flushes out all the out of date System Cache, which seems to be the main downfall with Win2k. Updating to XP soon, but I suspect that has exactly the same excessive cache retention problem.
I usually keep mine on for 3 days at a time. Prefer to give my PC some time to 'cool off' although it probably doesn't need it.
Just out of curiousity, does anyone in the UK know how much it costs to leave a PC on 24/7? Having a debate with my friends on this one...
ya i turn mine off 2 bcuz mine is loud as hell and my comp is rite besides my bedQuote:

mine stays on unless, with the occasional reboots for patching, software/hardware installs, etc.
I don't understand the complaint about electricity...we have three machines here, two of which are on almost 24/7, another is on occasionally, four people, 3 televisions, washer, dryer, etc...
and the electric bill is still only ~100$
i only shut it down while im not downloading
well take the kW that it uses say 300W?Quote:

300/1000=0.3kW
0.3*24hrs=7.2kWh per day
7.2*7p=50.4p per day
50.4*365=£183.96 per annum
i guessed on the 300W, so modify if its not right :) not a lot, eh?
Pay for something?? i m not aware of thi phrase?? what is it's definition??Quote:
