im thinking of running a site which basically indexes cracks / serials. it dont host anything, is basically a search engine which "indexes" leading crack sites? only problem is it will be easy for the autherites to find my address etc, so is it illegal safe or what?
why do you wanna start such a website?

search engines has databases :D
it's pretty hard to make one..
it depends on where you are i guess - america, id forget it, but anywhere else isnt so bad i guess.
and how will it be hosted? on your pc? on ISP webspace?
if its your pc, prepare for people trying to hack you etc, you know how people can be
and are you gonna auto-index it (i.e. auto browse google)? or just go through astalavista and get all the hacks from there?
Oh dear, that's quite difficult indeed. You'll have to ask permission from the crack sites of course... and contacting crack sites is highly illegal unless you live in the Cook Islands. Did I mention that to get the databases needed, you'll have to pay several thousand dollars?

I disagree. This forum seems to have a decent host yet it's had many bandwidth problems in the past because of high traffic and people trying to overload the server. A serial search site would have about 100 times more hits, as well as more people trying to overload the server, and pages would have to load MUCH faster than on any forum like this one to make it a good search engine.Quote:

Maybe it wouldn't cost thousands at first, but if the site gets really popular (like astalavista or even half that), then it will. You'll need multiple servers to run that thing, each at about $150 per month.
I don't know of any host that would allow you to make this kind of site, so you would either have to know people underground ... or have your own powerful working surfer so I suppose you would need to shell out if your serious about doing so ...
I think what [SPAM] wants to do is create a simple site that has links to cracks and serials, with a search feature.
It shouldnt really cost anything, but will require a lot of time to find those links to index and to keep them up-to-date.
There are many free hosting companies offering cgi facilities, so you can run your own scripts to do all this. and there are lots of cgi script sites offering free scripts for similar purposes, you just need to adapt them for your own uses.
You can hide your identity, so you can't be traced by using proxy servers. :D
EDIT: I forgot to mention. You are likely to be shutdown by your host very quickly once they are informed/discover your site is offering such links :o
