Hey, I Need Help On This

well, I"M TIRED OF GETTING RIPPED OFF FROM SCHOOL BOOKSTORES.every semester when i buy books it totals out to be like 400-500 bucks.....it's fuckin stupid, so now i've come here to ask if anyones had good luck finding good sites that sell textbooks for cheap and also reliability and all that.........i've heard about the amazon site, but i don't know...i'm trying to find out more so that i can check.......and also, is there a way to search for isbn numbers without having to go to the bookstore and writting it down? cuz they won't let me and apparently that's the only way to search for the correct books online or something...

I heard half.com sold textbooks.

If you know the title, Amazon usually posts the ISBN numbers. ;)

like i said, THEY FUCKIN RIP YOU OFF....IT'S ALWAYS LIKE A 100 BUCKS PER BOOK OR SOMETHING.....horrible, and i keep hearing guys who've bought the same fuckin book online from places like half.com and stuff for like 50 bucks.....i'm like, what the fuck, i just ran a search and the cheapest one is like 89.......damn......

Relax man! Buy a scanner. I usually buy my books a few weeks before the start of the semester. Then I scan everything and get my full refund before that start of classes.

Damn, that's a good idea, I've never thought of that.
Of course it would take allot of scanning for the whole book, and a hell'va lot for all the books I've got this semester.

what the fuck, scan over 800 pages in one book!??!?! that's insane...

and then what? i have a scanner, but never used it....

What do you expect? It takes time and effort to save money! :D

i guess...but how does that work......cuz i've never used a scanner before.....and plus, does the scanned page come out pretty good to read and stuff?

Yes, a flatbed scanner can make good copies. The software can save the files as txt, MS-Word, gifs, jpg, pdf, etc. The software also has a copier mode where whatever you scan is sent directly to your printer in B&W.

hm....i should try that.........although doing that will take like 3 straight days of copying back and forth nonstop

The most important thing about scanning is to choose a good resolution. Otherwise your text will be very blurry.

Yep, I read a lot of comic scans which obviously require a good resolution. 150 dpi should be alright for anything.

okay, i'll go by your words cuz i dont' know a damn thing about these things....i just push scan sometimes without messing with the options......cuz i don't wanna make things worse..but yeah.....

uh...regarding to buying books at places like half.com, is there a return refund policy on this shit? cuz it seems that the books that you look under , they don't have a preview picture of it so you can only go by their word, but what if you get the book after paying for it and it looks all jacked up and shit?

and i also heard that there are indian sites or asian sites from out of the country bookstores that sell them EVEN CHEAPER!! does anyone have links? ineed to get this book by today

Well I'm english, so I can't really help. but one guy altready said he scanned his books. If we could standardise this, maybe in acrobat, wouldn't it make a great resource for student?, maybe we should have a small specialised forum for educational links? I know we are getting snowed under with seperate pages but an educational one has got to be in a good cause, I know some of the kazaa downloads I got saved me a fortune on the MSCE
