Re: Linux Filesharing Software
right then - does anyone have a binary news client that will work on linux? Im considering jumping (again), but this is an absolute must now.
Re: Linux Filesharing Software
The best BT-client for linux is TorrentFlux. It uses BitTornado/BitTorrent as backend and as frontend it uses Apache and PHP in combination with MySQL. This way you have a user-friendly interface, but without annoying graphics. It also makes it easy to use remotely without vnc/vpn... if you opt for security, just forward port 80 through SSH or link through Kerberos. ;)
Re: Linux Filesharing Software
ares galaxy was recently made open source so with any luck there will be an offical linux clinet forthe network soon.

does linux increase network datarate efficiency? I remember my connection having a nice 40-50kb/s increase in speed using it to download some stuff. Maybe it was just lucky, but I normally don't reach 380-400kb/s that much.
Download accelerators help achieve something rather around 340kb/s in windows , but rarely 400kb/s.

lol - its amusing that it took all this time, but i do actuall still flick in and out of here. Ive tried linux a few times, but just never "got away" with it. One problem is the other half, who would probably get annoyed trying to learn...maybe one day ;)
Re: Linux Filesharing Software

You can run utorrent through wine.
Never bothered, tho', myself.
Re: Linux Filesharing Software
try also Ktorrent, or BitTornado. But Ktorrent is one of the best there is.

If you are using FileZilla, make sure you have your drive encrypted, becuase all of the login details are stored in plaintext in xml files
I have steered clear of it since i discovered this, i prefer to use CrossFTP now, or FTPRush through wine/crossover :)
Re: Linux Filesharing Software
I prefer deluge for torrents.
Re: Linux Filesharing Software
ive tried ktorrent and many others, i just prefer to run utorrent through wine, best torrent program on any os ive used hands down, wish they made a version for linux though
