Fan Arrangement

Okay, here is my current fan arrangement, any way i can change these to get better temps? ie changing in intake to an output or whatever need be

oh and also, the fan that came with my PSU, which is an outtake i believe
My main concern is lowering my CPU temp, I am getting new thermal paste soon, but better airflow would also be nice

You don't show any, but I assume that your PSU also has some fan(s).

For starters you might flip the fan on your sidepanel to intake...hoping to feed fresh air to the HSF...

haha yes clocker, i admit i did forget to draw that in, but i wrote it in afterwards, my mistake lol
would changing that to an intake lower my temps significantly? hmm yes i can see how that would help....thanks

Indeed K, establishing airflow through the case is very difficult, even with hellacious big fans.
Far easier to concentrate on site-specific cooling...putting cool air right to the place where it will do the most good.

A useful first step would be to determine where the hot spots in your case are.
Just guessing, I would imagine that the spot above your HSF ( below the PSU) is one area .
As your chip is probably the #1 heat producing component in the case, dealing with it's waste heat first will yield the biggest return for the effort.
What voltage/speed are you running your fans on?

I just changed my setup around yesterday and noticed better temps already. I had a Volcanoe 9 hsf,two 80 mm blowing out of the rear,one 80 mm facing out on the side panel and I have two in the front that really don't do to much seeing as my case has no vents in the front.
What I did was replace the fan on my heatsink with the fan that was on my sidepanel (it was a UV fan,and it looks damn cool on my heatsink),I took the adjustable one from the heatsink and put it in the hole right below my power supply,placed another 80mm right below it.Still have the side fan facing out and the two useless front fans blowing in there and because my motherboard has everything except video on board I used the lower slots to put an intake fan there. My temps dropped from the low thirties to mid to high twenties.
By the way I have an XP 1900+,Gigabyte GA-7vt600-p-l motherboard.I know the temps seem quite low but I have checked them with Aida32,speedfan,my gigabyte utility,Hmonitor and MBM5.0 and all give me the exact same temps.
Right now my CPU is at 26 degrees,my motherboard is at 26 degrees and my hard drive is at 25 degrees

Johnboy, do you know which sensor MBM is reading your chip temp from?
And I assume that all these readings are at idle, not load?

Yeah the temps are at idle.After I swapped everything around yesterday I ran 3dmark 2001 three or four times in a row and the temps only went up one or two degrees.After I came home from work last night my temps were almost up to 30 but the wife likes to set the thermostat to 30 degrees while I am not home though so it was still sitting at room temp. I just p[layed Vice city for about an hour and my temps only went up 2 degrees.I know Vice City is not really demanding but I expected to see an increase.
I can't remeber how I had MBM5 setup,I just uninstalled it after i checked everything.I figure I have enough software watching my temps.

26C is really low for air cooling.......

So your entire computer is above the temperature of your processor....which is in your computer........

If you let your computer on, for say, 3 days, looping 3dmark, how high does the temp get.... Surely your CPU cant be always cooler than the ambient temperature of the case, the temp of the air that its using to cool the processor....

I see the screeshots too, but I mean, your using 30C air, to cool off a CPU to 25C, something isnt adding up.

I am not sure why my temps are so low.I used to have a shuttle AK32A motherboard and my CPU temp was always in the mid thirties to mid forties , but as soon as I changed boards my temps dropped drastically to what they are now.I have no idea why they dropped but they did.

I have no idea why this is. Maybe the sensor for my cpu was from the same batch as Abu's hard drive sensor :lol: . I don't know. It wasn't like this with my old board,generally the CPU temps were at least 1-2 degrees higher than the system temps were.

You don't have any idea what the "AUX" voltage would be, do you. It has got me a bit paranoid as it is showing up in red.

Sounds like a sensor is reading wrong.

You should go find out MBM configures things, and set it up and see what you might find.

Although if its a sensor reading low, different monitoring softwares will all read the same wrong sensor, wrong.

OK,I went to the MBM5 motherboard sensor list page and according to that page my MBM5 is reading the right senso for the case and the right sensor for the CPU.
You don't suppose maybe the board needs a BIOS update? This could be common issue with these boards.Hmmm,I'll check .

Well,did the BIOS update.Everything is still the same. I wish I did have a digital probe thermometer,then I'd get to the bottom of it. Oh well,for now my temps look good to me.

Heatsink is warm,nothing too extreme,northbridge heatsink on the other hand is somewhat hot .Noticably hotter than the heatsink on my CPU.

I was thinking the same thing. I am gonna have to pick up a fan for it on payday.I really didn't want to scratch it up just incase I have to return the board or something. Oh well,gotta do what I gotta do.

I looped 3DMark2001 for roughly an hour and a half and my temps went up about 2 degrees.CPU was at about 29, board 30,case 31.

You apparently exist in the same screwy continuum as Abu's hard drive.

Do you see how odd it is that at 100% CPU usage your chip and board are cooler than case ambient?

I know it makes no sense.I just bought the board about three weeks ago so it should not be having any problems.

Well, it's certainly not personal, and he's provided screenshots showing the temps he claims so it's not like I think he's lying, but....

It is simply illogical to keep believing in readings that are nonsensical.With an air cooled rig, the chip ( and most likely the board also) have to be at least a few degrees warmer than the surrounding air.

Long as im not the only one that realizes it.

Well I am thinking that if nothing else the programs are reading the sensor backwards or something.Maybe my chassis temp of (currently 27 degrees) is actually my CPU temp (it is currently reading only 24 degrees,and so is the motherboard reading).I know these temps are quite low but it was pretty warm today (haha,-6 degrees LOL) so I have had the window open a crack pretty much all day.It might be 20-21 degrees in the room right now.

Yes they are.
For a typical system ( meaning not heavily modified), 27 C
is pretty darn low, even for an idle reading.

Well,even with my old board I tried to make sure they were always no higher than 35-38 ,that didn&#39;t always work. I know my old XP2200+ ran alot cooler on my old board than the XP1900+ did. I think I may go to Gigabyte&#39;s website and see if I can email somebody to see if this seems out of wack to them.Maybe this is a problem with theses boards.

Maybe someone has made a custom MBM .ini file for your board.
There is one for my Asus and it automatically sets the app to read the proper sensors...no guesswork involved.
