Ok, another computer has a problem:
I tried AIDA32 on it, and I noticed that the CPU (a P4 3.06) is runing at 72-73ºC :ph34r:

open it up, and check it, it seems bery hot.
:o thats really high! maybe thermal paste dried up? possibly
again make sure that the fan is spinning on the heatsink and if not replace it, if it is then get some thermal paste for it and remove the heatsink then clean and apply some. that is if you are incharge of these computers, if they arent your business then why would you care?

i pictured it being an office where there are lots of people just sitting around doing accounting or something on the computers and a few play games and asked you for help with their overherating PCs and i was thinking you were just one of them that is just an employee.
Also make sure the fan is the right size. pentium 4 may look like a small processor but it needs a lot of cooling.
From my experience some people don't apply the thermal paste when they build a system, thinking its something they should throw away :lol: Until they get fried chips for their fish :lol: (fish and chips - popular food in the UK)
if there are similar pcs in the pace, try running it on them too, see if they are the same temp
edit: fish&chips is good in scotland, in england they fry it with the skin still on.

would a big block of metal filled with water be good for cooling a cpu? it wont have fans or anything but im thinking that there will be so much water in the block that it wont heat up too much...or will it?

it would probably heat up pretty easily, but would be useless as a coolign method, as the ehat wouldnt get dispearsed, and would just build up

u can get away with large heatsinks on older cpu's without fans, but i doubt u would get away with it easily on newer ones.

using a thermalright slk900 you can use almost any processor with it and run it fanless. i wouldnt receomend it, but its possible to do, youll just have pretty high temps (high 40s/ low 50s).
well, you could if you made it HUGE, but then you risk crushing the processor....much easier to have a weeny one with a decent fan.
With processors getting more and more powerful (and presumably hotter) what do you think will be the solution for future cooling?
I can't imagine fans getting bigger and more noisier.

they might start thinking of new watercooling systems that are lighter and more rugged than existing ones so they cant break when beinng shipped\moved. or maybe peltiers will become more common with maybe a heatsink of their own to coll them wwhich should keep iot about as loud as todays heatsinks.
