Do you believe in any of the following things and if so how do they work or how do you veiw them? What makes you believe in them?

Fate:Are some things just meant to be?
Predestination:Kinda like fate but means that everything is alreay laid out for you from the time that you are born...there isnt any accidents..everything is meant to happen..
Luck:that events can be changed or altered by a immeasureable outside force and can be influenced by certaim lucky items or rituals...or that certain numbers are "lucky"?

whereas i don't think our lives follow a schedule, i believe that we can't control events around us but we can control certain aspects. I make the choice of what to eat for example (but do i really or was i destined to make the choice i did?)
If we all do have an unchangable destiny then who or what decides it?
i see another debate about God ahead on this subject...does this mean i am controlling my destiny because i can predict? or will fate dictate that i am to be disproven? :blink:

am not gonna go into the god thing in this thread unless someone else does...

just want veiws on predestination and fate and luck...

predestination pretty well rules out luck or fate...for those martix fans..cause and effect would be the main culprits of "who" sets up this veiw..we all just react to our situation and we are locked in to the way we react...

Luck..well i have already described these...

I love the part in Minority report where the red ball is rolled off the table and their discussion about freewill and predesitination...

was just wonderin cause we just got the lottery and have several friends who have all these lucky rituals and things they use/do to increase their chances...so i was curios how anyony veiws luck..and how it works..where it comes from..etc

I play quite often at the casino and I can tell you that there is no such thing as a lucky shirt etc. At the casino you have to make your own luck, nothing that you wear or bring with you is going to change that. Sometimes you win,sometimes you loose. After loosing a good bit of money I myself learned that lesson.

I believe that YOU have control of your fate and YOU are the one writing your own story.

Predestination imo only applies to robots.

They are programmed to do things and have no choice in changing thier fate. (and cows :lol:)

if i look on all the past events off my life they all place together good and bad almost perfictly to perfect as if it was already to be. deeply reflect on your life and the desisions you made you may thin kthat you had a choice in the desision but the desision was already made long before you ever began thinking about it, noe after looking back dont you think everything is just a little to "planned" out. :ph34r: :lol: :lol: :lol: :P but thats only my opinion and im a screwed up canadian <_<

Try this one on fer size.

For years my lucky numbers were 13 and 42.
13 because you know how it's lucky for some? I'm one of the some. ;)
42 because of the hitch hiker's guide and also because that damn number has been cropping up wherever I go all my life.

I'd bet on those 2 numbers when playing Keano.
A bet cost me $2 and returned $24 if they came up, and they did quite often over the years I played the game.

But those 2 numbers became even more signifigant when I met my g/f who I've been very happy being with for nearly 10 years now.

When we were introduced, I lived in a flat. It was flat 42.
After it became clear that we were going to last, I moved into her place because she lived in a house.
The number of that house was 13.

Fate? Predestination? Coincidence? You decide... I just think it's freaky and kinda cool. :D

i'm fookin unlucky. i got my bike back from its service and MOT yesterday and it decides it likes me (it wasnt working well before). lastnight we got the first decent snowfall in about 3 years :angry:

I think it runs more in sports then anything else...The rally caps in baseball and all kindsa players have differnet rituals and certain clothes they wear...

Does anyone have a "lucky charm" or ritual that they do?

my lucky collar it never leaves me ever ever ever had it since i was 10 and its brought me 7 years of luck (2 of badluck :rolleyes: )

used to know the name of that..starts with an "n"..i think..arrgh brain cramp...

anyhow back to subject..I used to have a 4-leaf clover in my wallet but i lost the wallet so obviously it wasnt lucky...I dont really have anything I can think of that i consider a goodluck charm now

i never ever seen a four leaf clover :angry: i can t belive you lost it :lol: :lol: mabey try the opposite for better luck get a black cat :unsure:

I had the clover for quite some time....maybe the luck just ran out...

when i was a kid i had a lucky keychain....
I had a white cat...r they suppose to be lucky?

We used to have a black cat.

While we had him, our luck was good enough, but I swear that poor cat was cursed.
He was always getting beaten up by the other cats in the neighbourhood.
We spent a fortune on Vet fees, but he still didn't live very long. :(

Oh yeah.. and I have a four leaf clover. I keep it in a little picture frame in my living room.
Don't know if it's brought me any luck though...

About Fate, I beleive whole heartedly,

When My Mom was a kid, she saw the Calgary Stamped on TV, and swore that she would one day live in Cow Town (Calgary).

She met my Dad, and he lost his Job, so they deside to move to Calgary, but,,, My Dad gets a job about 1 month before they desided to go.

I was born, grew up and applied for College, I got acepted to SAIT (Southern Alberta College of Art and Design) in Calgary... But something happened that made it that I couldnt go, and stay at home in Ottawa Ontario.

1998. I'm in a chatroom, and meet a girl, fall in Love and guess what, she's from Calgary. we live here now.

I beleive that, in one way or an other I was meant to live here, and raise my family here. Through the years, Fate has guided me and my folks here and finaly we are where we were meant to be. Why? I dont know, I may never know, it may have absolutly nothing to do with me, perhaps my daughter or my futur grand kids, who knows, but I do know that Fate is a power that cannot be turn, and always gets its way in the end...
