no options , by far the best is the Athlon64 bit FX-51
followed close behind by the Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz-C Extreme
quote from this web site
http://www.hardavenue.com/ultimatepc.shtml
Regardless of who's side your on in the CPU wars, breaking the 3.0GHz barrier like the Pentium4 has is one heck of a feat. There is no doubt that the new line of Pentium 4's are here to deliver serious performance for the serious PC user, and what is more serious than gaming? This CPU is even more souped up than your average Pentium4, with 2MB of L3 cache, or in other words, a gaming aimed Xeon without MP support. Although AMD's latest Athlon64 range is putting up one hell of a fight, if not surpassing Intel's chips, at the time of writing (October 2003), the FX-51
There is no alt's to these 2 chips , dont be fooled , the others arnt even in the same league
Maximum PC ran several test and the Intel P4 EE one most of them and they crowned it as the best, better then the FX and the Apple G5. AMD and Intel are pretty much your only options like he said...
Does everyone foget about the opteron and the MP these days
He said he knows AMD and Intel, which is what those are. I think hes looking for other companies...Quote:

The only other realtime comps are/were, mac, SIS,
Theres several other companies that make vector processers for super computers
ok thanks, i was just looking at the stock market and found that amd wasn't doing as well as intel. lol its funny how much people do not know about how much better quality amd is. i was asking for different types to compare market values.
thanks
IBM I know make some processors.
Most manufacturers have long gone
IMO, intel are much better quality than AMD but i still prefer AMD because of the price.Quote:

intel's beter quality because of there thrttling capabilities, if the heatsync wer to all off or fan stop working the cpu will reduce its Mhz speed and become cooler until proper cooling is supplied. amd would catch on fire if this happened...
...i have a video...
as far as i know, VIA is the only company making PC CPUs that compete against Intel & AMD, but their niche is in making CPUs that generate less heat so they don't require loud fans, rather than trying to outperform Intel & AMD products. IBM makes G5 CPUs for Apple Macs. Sun Microsystems makes its own CPUs and builds servers and workstations (for business & graphic design) around them.
for non-PC products, i think Motorola is a pretty huge supplier of CPUs for things like cellphones, video games, cars, appliances, etc. they were formerly IBM's partner in the design/manufacture of Apple Mac CPUs.
atmel makes processors for alot of things.
