I went for my 20 wk scan on Tuesday, the Dr. done a few scans and told me my baby is only measuring at 18 wks. I was sent a head Dr. to have a chat with me. I arranged to go back on Friday for more scans.
On Friday, a Dr. re-scan me in every position possible and told me some worrying things. My baby is lying very low, so low in fact I was believed to be starting labour. Because of this, it was impossible to get a good scan. Also now being 21 wks, the babe still hasn't grown.
So tomorrow, Im travelling to a special unit miles away where they will scan me again, and possibly give me an amniocentesis, which is basically an injection into the womb to collect some matter. This carries a chance of a mis-carriage, and is odd this late on in a pregnancy. The results of this test will tell me if it is going to have any defects, like Downs Syndrome or Spina Bifida. If this test comes back positive, I will then need to decide whether to terminate or not.

The Dr's were talking to me as if they had never seen anything like this before, which scared the crap outta me. Plus, if they can't get a good scan.....it means an internal!!!!

Don't worr lilmiss, that's what doctors do.
If you have an ingrowing toe nail they act like you have gangreen. It's just to prepare you for the worst scenario possible, they have to sound grave and serious :lol:

One of my friends had something like this too, she had to stay in bed the last two months of her pregnancy though :( But she has two healthy little boys now :)

i hope it all works out for you, My wife is carrying our 4th at the moment and even being a vetran father i still worry about everything. I am not a religious person but i will keep my hopes up for you.

OK, I went to the hospital on Monday.
They told me the same stuff I had already heard, the baby is still measuring too small. Its still in an awkward posistion. I agreed too have the amniocentesis, even though it holds a risk of a mis-carriage. It was the most painful thing I have ever been through, and I have a tattoo'd back. :unsure:

Anyway the main scan for defects came back yesterday, it doesn't have Downs Syndrome, which is a big relief. The Dr's are still checking my blood for Spina Bifida, etc... That should take a few more days to get the results through.

The Dr who done the scan on Monday was really concerned about a hole they have found in my placenta, which may not be letting enough food through. But he is also worried about where the babe is lying low down, as it seems Im ready to go into labour at any moment. :blink:

He was really blunt with me, and told me he can't promise I will be left with a healthy baby, and there is a chance of a still birth.
So in short, I still haven't received any good news.

Sorry to hear about complications lilmiss, I really am, but hope everything goes well and they find out everythings ok....my thoughts are with you :).

Complications are always going to be a worry but they are just preparing you for the worst case scenario, just in case. Im sure your going to be a great Mum.
