Yes, you can get caught. Yes, you can prevent it. Take a look for proxies or AnonX (but you'll have to pay for AnonX)
has anyone ever got caught?
Yes. If you look around the forum you'll actually see that someone was sent an email from their ISP about sharing on Bitt todayQuote:

I was recently contacted via mail by my ISP about sharing a movie on Bit torrent >.<
Hi,
If you want to be safe and not get caught, follow the steps below...............
1. Exit all programs
2. Turn off your PC or MAC
3. Unplug all wires
4. pack your PC/MAC in a padded box
5. Ship it to Me!
That is the only way you will be safe.
If you dont want to run with a proxy you can run a program like ProtoWall. I use it and have never had any problems...

How do they work with bt? does it interfear with how some programs work and so on. which one would you chose in uk? Is it worth it?
bottom line, if u are a residential user and have constant high traffic on your bb connection, ya ISP are gonna know what ya up to,
best way round things is dont choose BT/FREESERVE/AOL as your providers
i've been with eclispe in the uk for ages - i havent heard a thing from em
i use a program called 'complete anonymous web surfing' and that allows you to connect to a proxy as and when you want to. it even chooses the best ones for you, its call. i got mine from overnet!!
