(FIRST OFF THIS IS NOT ABOUT MY IP CATCHIN ME OR ANYTHIN)
right i was wondering if there was a limit to how much u can download apart from the obvious of the speed :lol:
as u all know theres many many threads on ips etc but i was wondering is there a certain limit isp lets u download because i would like to stay under this limit just to be safe :lol:
i was just wonderin i mean if they catch me they catch me hey it happens. :D
Some ISPs have allocated bandwidth resources you're allowed and smack you if you go over. Some don't.

Ok 3 questions? What are your max download speeds? And is there a app out there that can uncap my download bandwidth speed on my roadrunner cable modem that actually does what it says? And why am I paying $50 a month with something I am not satisfied with cause I don't believe Im getting my money's worth? <_<
yes there is an app to do it but dont coz ur ip will NOTICE YOU :lol: but u wont get fast dl if ur dl from a slow person

NTL (Uk isp) limites you to 1gb per day. excludes dial up, broadband only.
BROCKSTER just call your isp and ask them.
just like calling the phone company and asking them how many minutes you get on your cell phone :D

It does matter just say that your comparing to other ISPs or do it annomonusly
according to an article in Personal Computer World magazine, UK, NTL is also to limit users to I GB of downloads per day, and more isp's are set to follow suit, just hope mine don't......
I am on telewest broadband, I know NTL and Telewest have teamed together, but does thier limit apply to both? Actually, no it can't i've downloaded more than a gb in one day (i think :blink: )

to your questions:
If you uncap your modem your ISP will notice it and most likely they will cancel your account.

Just worry about that when it comes :D
Also, i recall reading that an isp has an upload limit, or rather marker that if you go over they get suspicious and think hmmmmm <_< this person might be sharing stuff.....HA screw em :D If you get ANY trouble at all just fone up and threaten to change isp's, you'll be suprised how quickly they'll placate you! :D :D
They won't sue you for going over the bandwidth limit. ;) They'll make you pay for it. Much like how some dial-up ISPs make you pay if you go over your set minutes.

Im on NTL and havnt recieved a letter yet, heres my daily limits on dumeter, ill post again once i get my new pc with an 80gig hdd and dvdrw as im sure it will be at least doubled and if not trippled.

My point is that the cap put on by ntl is a load of rubish, so dont worry about the cap of these.
PS: ive just spent ages sorting the list out into tables but for some reason when i post it goes back to being squashed up. :angry: and looks crap.

on cable, since its a shared line, they have limits on how much you can d/l and upload, but as far as single lines like DSL, T1-T3, OC-48 etc etc are concerned, there's no limit.....

BOTH A/DSL and cablemodems connect back to a local 'central office' for your ISP and get aggregated (joined with) a lot of others locally on the same ISP which then connects to the internet through a fast connection like a OC-3 (45Mbps) or better. A 56k dial-up ISP might have 20-50 modems connected to a single T-1 -- and have 2-5 times as many total customers. At THAT level, both A/DSL and cablemodems have to share bandwidth.
So although A/DSL has no major bottleneck (due to other's use) from the modem to the ISP's central office -- there's still a shared bandwidth issue going from the ISP's hub to the rest of the internet. And the ISP has to pay for that connection AND its bandwidth useage.
Because the local infrastructure is so robust here (I'm on a Comcast cablemodem -- which is connected to the ISP via dual FDDI), EVERY cablemodem could be uncapped to 10 Mbps full duplex and probably not overload the local to-ISP network. But the OC-3 lines servicing the area can only give out about 0.5Mbps PER cablemodem -- they count on people not using more bandwidth than that continually... but that doesn't account for HEAVY p2p use and the 'mad rush' during 3:30 PM till almost 10:30 PM on weekdays when most people are online in force...
Most high speed inNOrth america do, the fix email their billing dept. And say that if they are gonna charge you for it is on them to provide you with a tool to monitor it. I did this and my huge bill disapeard. 1.00$ for every 100mb's over 10gigs am month that i like 40 bucks a day. ( on a slow day.)

Yes, they assign each cablemodem an ip address and they have to know which one to route into and outgoing data to. Traffic monitoring tools are not too expensive that I can't get some limited ones even for my home LAN.Quote:

So they have to know at least the number of ip data packets go to/from those locations. Where that data is stored only very briefly, short-term (1 day), or long-term (3 months) probably depends on ISP -- but I think the US government wants ISPs to have data logs (at least email logs) for something like 3 months. Carnovore's replacement is hard at work!
If you're too far away from the central office A/DSL lines will have reduced speed and possibly reduced reliability. Cablemodems even at the edge of the local network can manage whatever speed the overall network can bear and/or whatever they're capped to.
sometimes i download maybe 3 movies a day but i don't hear anything from my provider so i think it also depents on the provider,
yea im about 3 blocks from the CO, so i get great speeds!!! hehehehe lol
