how do u get rid of the shortcut arrows for the icons on the desktop again (i forgot)? thanks
1. Start regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.
You may need to restart Windows XP.
Enjoy. :)
Regseeker has a tweak menu as well , and its a must program . Free too but like any Reg tool, backup while your learning to use. :)

But noone seems to want to tell him that its not advised to get rid of the icon.
I hear it might make Win not think of it as a shortcut, and crap out on ya.
No idea if its true and what it means tho :P
I think I know what you mean ,you can't tell if it's a program short cut or an actual program. But I disable mine with no problems. :) The arrow that is not the icon. We have enought clutter on our desk top it does look a lot cleaner with out the silly arrow's ;)Quote:

Windows knows exactly what it is because shortcut filenames have the .lnk extension, you just can't see it.

You'll have HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk
