Hey. My friend and I are building him a new computer. He already has a mouse, keyboard, speakers, 17in LCD, HDD, graphics card, power supply.
All we need is a board, ram, cpu, and heatsink. We are gona get an A7N8X, mobile 2500XP...now we need a great heatsink..he has $900 but were only spendin like 500 max. So we got about 60ish to spend so im thinking the SP-97 Would that work good with a mobile 2500xp?
Why not get the retail package Barton 2500+? Comes with CPU cooler.
That is a very nice heatsink (SP-97) but you also need a fan for it.
The mobile retail doesnt come with a heatsink does it...? And he wants to overclock it alot...so the sp97 would be great...and it will fit right?
How about the SP-120?
Zalman's 7000A-CU should be good too.
Why not go for Abit NF7-S instead of A7N8X?
I cant find that on newegg.... or the thermalright website..they have an xp 120...but it doesnt look as good..its silver so i dont think its coper...but it could be.Quote:

It's a fine sink, but not "the best".
The 120's will be released very soon.
If your board has mounting holes around the socket it should fit.
I believe that TR's website has a mobo compatability list.

Less performance with lower FSB of only 266MHz.
The non mobile Barton 2500+ is better suited for non modile use.

The reason Iam getting the mobile is because it is unlocked and is pretty easy to get to 2.4 or 2.5Ghz
If the sp-97 isnt the best then is the sp-120? I dont see it on their site, also when should it be out?

Several other sinks have bested the TRs in different reviews.
The 120 should be released soon.
But the thermalrights are all coper, and huge...I wouldnt think anything would top them except maybe the swiftechs that are like 90 bucks.

Most do hit the 2.5Ghz to 2.6Ghz range though...

Maybe I exagerated a bit but people have been able to reach 2.9 or 2.8 on watercooling though.

To get the story straight...The name I am on right now is my friend Matts that we just got tonight..and then my friends were fuckin round...we are on matts computer.
His current computer is a P4 2.0Ghz (overclocked to 2.4 by me) 512mb ram, 120GB hdd fx5600.
He dont play many games so were just upgradin ram mobo cpu case
The XP-120 is on the site that I mentioned...but I dont see anything about an sp-120.
Ok...what heatsink is like the best for a mobile 2500XP? I thought the SP-97 was...but w/e yall say ;) So whats like the best one?
Edit: The XP-120 is for both AMD and Intel.
The XP-120 is a lot smaller then the sp-94..so wouldnt that be worse or what? It dont look like its coper either..

Intel: Pentium-4 socket-478 3.2 GHz and above
Those are the specs on the page...would they even fit on a socket a?

After all, it's good to draw the heat away from the chip/socket with one of these beasts, but then you still have to evacuate the heat from the case itself..
So use fans =P

I was looking at the base where there is a flat copper surface. It seems to me that if there was a finned heatsink mounted right there it might improve it's performance. My idea being that some heat could be dissipated right at the base rather than going though the heatpipes. It would be interesting to do some testing of that theory. I think I'll keep a lookout for some reviews.

I have to go with the SP-97, because the XP-120 is for the Athlon 64
Is there any other heatsink on the market that will perform better than the SP-97 that is made for a Athlon XP??
My initial thought would be to do just the opposite.
Insulate the base and the exposed heatpipes so that more of the heat is carried up to the finned area.
It would be an interesting ( if semi-expensive) experiment though.

What bout This? Thermaltakes peltier cooling..it comes with stuff to conect the red and black wires and a heatsink and everything...isnt this stuff like really good?
