Newcomer sounds nice, so I voted for that!
Nah, I disagree. "newcomer" sounds like there here to take over. Plus, I had to suffer it
btw, cornerpocket, I've noticed how much work your doing to this board. Nice one :)
necomer definitely...this forums is mainly on K-lite...just cus they're new to K-lite forums doesnt mean they're a newbie to the program. They person may have been with Kazaa since the day it came out, and since the napster days so why should they be called newbies?
I like the idea of Newcomer as opposed to Newbie. To me, Newbie just sounds so insulting. Just because someone is new to the board, doesn't mean they don't have anything to offer, although I will admit I was such a n00b way back when. :">
I voted no.
Newcomer is weird. Newbie is cool and a more familiar name, in my opinion. B)
If newbies are also called n00bs then should newcomers be called n00ks as in :nuke: ?
:P :P
Sounds better you got my vote *(Newcomer )* ;)
I think your'e right Datamore. Newbie is original and (in a strange sort of way) cute which makes me help the poor things. I think the others should be changed, sr.member is old fashioned. (dont lower my stating though :D )Quote:

I agree , the term 'Newbie' is somewhat deragatory because it sounds like the person just got a new computer and doesn't have a clue how to use it (which may or may not be the case). However, I also agree with TRshady - 'Newcomer' sounds kind of ominous (I think it's from the miniseries 'V'). Some other possibilites to consider:
Apprentice
Freshman
Neophyte
Rookie
Tenderfoot
I voted yes. It sound much more friendly and welcoming. :)
It takes away the insult factor.
I voted maybe just cause some "newcomers" seem unhappy by the title newbie.
But also I voted maybe cause I really like the term n00b. I'm serious about that too, I think it would be funnier to people than newbie.
Not like anybody would ever do it, so g'head, newcomer sounds new user friendly.
:)

nOOb is insulting, newbie is different. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I'm a big fan of nice to new members, but I don't think we need to give them a new name to feel more at home. I think the 'not necessarily mean, not necessarily nice' term newbie helps in some small way weed out new member spamming. It only takes a couple of days for people to realize how quickly they go from being called newbie to nOOb when they do worthless posts. I think newcomer will add, in however small of an amount, to the number of posts made by newbies, especially in the wrong places. This seems to contradict the recent trend of trying to minimize usless posts and moderator workload. Just my opinion of course.
But then again, people who do find it an insult are childish. Also, it encourages them to post more. Then there's spam .......
I think we should scap newbie but come up with something more original and modern/fun the "newcomer".
How about: "in training"
"first steps"
nah, forget the end bit.
Just a quick thought. :)
:D If a member who has lots of posts is called a Post Whore, shouldn't a member with no posts at all be called Post Virgin? :D
Like I said, just a thought. :P
lol... good idea.Quote:

I have to agree that 'Newcomer' is a good title, but that won't stop people from calling them n00bs.
Being an online game addict, newbie an nOOb are used constantly,in-game, as a put-down.You gotta laugh. I like it, to me it means 'willing to learn', friendly and adaptable.Being a father of two small children I am a newbie too! We are all nOObs at something in life, why worry over the word? :D
Kind regards, Newbie south-paw
Why not just New Member (or does that sound like a penis transplant)
Can't really use it now I have said that can we. Sorry.
Guess Sr.Members cant help bein old an wrinkly, wishing for a p transplant eh?
@JmiF, You can always edit your own post. :)
i think newb sounds better... new comer doesnt have that ring into it...
Newcomer doesn't sound as good as newbie
And i don't see the problem if you get called a newbie in games then that is that but this is the K-lite Forum :D B)
A newcomer is what we see in the sci-fi movies. ;)
They are usually aliens that come in peace. :D
For example:
:alien: We come in peace.
:) Welcome Newcomer!
I voted No. Newcomer just sounds silly. What's so terrible with Newbie? when you have just joined, you ARE a newbie dammit! ;)
but ok. if you absolutley have to change it, how about 'starting member', 'KL-rookie'... ANYTHING but newcomer! <_<
Might get them to introduce themselves alot sooner that's for sure :rolleyes:Quote:

Newbie and proud, well not really that's why I'm posting damn it!
Is this a first time sex nickname???????
I think Newbie is a generic term but can be a bit of a putdown term
How about KLearner
or ............................
forget it, I cannot think of a better term, stick with Newbie
(after all we were all one once)
Hey your first post
Congrats :beerchug:

(I think there shy, it's ok we don't bite ....... just flame  , me not included o:) )
 Newbie or not to Newbie? I'll vote no to the name change. I am one, no problem. Everyone here has been one. It's not degrogatory. Although nOOb does seem so, (too close to boob?).
I've been sharing since Napster, but not like what I see here. I'm currently overwhelmed by the whole VCD thing, trying to wrap my head around some new programs and juggling them. I'm trying to point out that everyone's still new to something.
If being called a Newbie is offensive to some I apologize, but stand by my opinion.
If it prevents someone from participating then I rescind my vote and y'all call me Newcomer.
Cheers, OMC
I voted no.
Newbie has that air of laid-backness that this board has.
Newcomer is far too formal. ;)
:ninja:
ooo cc there ya go... can you restrict the poll for newbs to vote onli? since itz unfair for us to vote for them...Quote:

I think that newbie sounds better then newcomer.
And i think metalrebelzz has some pretty good names which should be consedied.
I don't really think it makes a difference, any of them sounds fine.
I voted no, newcomer sounds like a sexual act, and besides, us oldcomers are better in bed ;)
