If I were to upgrade my computer's RAM, do I just stick the RAM in, and it will work?
Do I have to do any configuring in the BIOS or Windows?

Ram is a kind of plug and play situation. just make sure it's seated fully. It takes more pressure then you would think is needed.
And if possible, get same brand/speed that you have before if your adding new stuff to work dual channel with your old.
Make sure you get the right type. If you got a newer pc, you'll have to get a 184-pin stick. Usually PC2100, 2700, 3200, 4000 and higher for the OC'ers. 2100 being the slowest you'd wanna get and so on.
Caution!!
DO NOT GET SLOW RAM!
try to match it with your cpu fsb for best performance so it will run 1:1 ratio
unless of coarse your overclocking, in which case get as fast as possible. DO NOT cheap out on ram!
Ever seen a new computer with 256 of PC100 SDRAM? :P It is really very sad to see.Quote:

PC100 is 168-pin. Meaning its an old motherboard, cpu and so on.

Also known as SDRAM
As opposed to the newer faster DDR SDRAM
I am getting some extra RAm i have my PC2700 Samsung 512MB and getting the samestick so i should have no problem.
Does anyone know where a single stick of ram can hold 1GB becuase my board supports 2GB but i can only find 2 sticks of 512MB so only get 1GB
Do you need more than 1GB of RAM?
I know Mushkin makes 1GB sticks...I assume that other manufacturers do also.
Theres 2 gig sticks if you want one of them :D
Id be glad to take you 512 stick off your hands B)
whats this new ddr2 ram? shouldnt it be qdr or dddr? i saw it on the cover of PCPlus but couldnt afford it
Does it have to be the same brand?Quote:

I've heard of some incompatibilities if you don't use the same brand. Is that true?

No it does not have to be the same brand, nor the same speed. However for best performance it is usually advised to match your ram as best as you can.
EDIT note that if you have a stick of fast and a stick of slow ram, both will run at the slower speed.
Well i wouldl ike 2GB of RAM would be nice to have you never know when couldcome in handy 2 sticks of 1GB ram, i cannot find any in the UK i think will just getthe other stick of samsung ram to match the one i got now.Quote:

If so you can monitor your memory usage.
I have 1GB of RAM installed and my free (unused) memory rarely drops below 750MB or so.
2GB would be complete overkill IMO....not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's probably several hundred dollars that could be better used elsewhere.
Twinmos makes 1gig pc2700 cas 2.5 sticks.
Recently put another of those in my brother's 'puter.
Dunno' where to get it outside of scandinavia tho', since I haven't looked.

I like to see my stats in real time Ross, without having to open task manager.Quote:

You can paste this script into the OSD of MBM and it will display on the screen...It's transparent and you can click through it, too.Quote:
